filters are applied before motion. have you tried nesting the entire composite and deinterlacing the nest?

compressor does a fantastic job with the new frame controls, it can even retime the footage to 24p. but why go to hdv? for editing, sure, but you’ll probably upres the hdv to uncompressed hd for the blowup anyway so it’s better to go directly to that from digibeta.

i mix my masters to -20db with peaks at around -8, then bring this up to -12 and 0 respectively for festival screening copies, since you’ll be playing with films that haven’t been sound mixed at all and thus have a dynamic range from around -3 to 0 at best, which means projectionists always turn down the volume for the entire show. a similar strategy could certainly be used for non broadcast video copies.

off is off. manual and automatic is on. setting it to automatic should work. otherwise manual with scaling set to highest quality will do the trick.

thanks, that’s pretty much what i’ve done already but using the intermediate codec rather than dvcprohd. what i want is to avoid this generation loss. as for going uncompressed do you realize that means around 450gb of storage for each 60 minute hdv tape? that’s a bit more than just biting the bullet since i have 6 tapes. 😉

Hey kafka, this is more and more confusing. Since i know you guys aren’t stupid you just gonna have to explain better. How can you not lose any resolution if you crop out 30 percent of the image? 16:9 material contains exactly the same amount of pixels to begin with…
