Hmmmm, not really true, as I have FCP 3, 4 and 5 on the same drive.
BEFORE you install FCP 5, rename the FCP 4.5 HD, in my case I did just that, named it 4.5 HD, and all is well.

Easiest way that I do it is to email it via either Ichat (mac) or Aol Instant Messenger.
Just create an account in either, have your client do the same.
Both sign on, when they show up in your buddy box, just drag the file to their name.

Make movie self contained exports a full res QT movie of your project.
If you uncheck that option, you are exporting references to your project, not the actual video itself.

Try opening one in Peak, (copy of Peak LE came with your FCP software, I believe), or another sound editing app.
Save as… 48k aiff.
This saved me when I had a similar problem last year.
