Thanks Kevin for your fast response.

I think I might just put all of the photos 1 frame apart in a new comp. Then set the particle to be random still frame.

Or to get 3D rotation, I could build a couple of comps with pictures rotating and render that out with alpha and then proceed like Kramer’s 3D cell tutorial, but make multiple instances of particular using the rotation. There would be many photos I think I’ll only hand animate a couple just to make sure the pattern wouldn’t be noticable.

What are your thoughts on that?

Also be sure to try to add reactive lighting to your subjects with masks.

If you don’t know what reactive lighting is, it is the light created to make an effect look like it was actually there. So for instance, you could “light up” their faces in AE when the lightsabers clash so it looks like its happening in real life.

There’s a tutorial on Digital Juice and Andrew Kramer has one for his muzzle flash tutorial.

  • I think he created an adjustment layer and added glow, then adjusted the settings. Its on his Serious Effects and Compositing DVD.

    Have you tried Trapcode Particular?

I know it seems like a common response from me, but I think it might work for you. You could set the emitter to a layer emitter, using your video footage, and then also set it as a custom particle. I think you can also do color and opacity over time.

  • You might just want to put the fractal noise on a huge solid, then scale the solid itself down. Since you’ll have another layer with scale properties, then you can use Andrew’s parenting tip and just scale the one property, use easy ease keyframes from start to finish and then do rove across time to make it smoother.

Pretty much anything by Andrew is awesome for both beginners and professionals. So yeah, have a go at it and you would need to mask that part out as well.

Try Trapcode Particular… it should help.

Joe Chao has a good tut on this as well using particular.

You need to duplicate your layer and then rotoscope a mask around the person. Need a tutorial on rotoscoping… search youtube or I believe there maybe one here on the COW.

For the river, shoot a blank shot of the river without your actor. Then get one of him at the bank of the river touching it. Pull the footage into AE and then put the blank layer on the bottom and the one of your person on top. Then mask out accordingly on the top layer to reveal a blank bottom layer. As he is touching the water, just add a little mask around his hand/fingers. Then make a new comp the same length as your shot. Make a solid and apply the Wave World plug in to it. Set the solid to be a 3-D layer and rotate it along the x-axis. Pull that comp into your main shot composition and turn off its visiblity. Set it up proportionately to the river. Apply caustics to the river layer and set the displacement map to the caustics layer. Adjust to taste.

I truly have no idea. But maybe you could use vector paint to roto the subject (or green screen) and then use bezier warp?

I’m totally baffled, but I hope that at least helps get something started.
