Check out Andrew Kramer’s Colorful Universe tutorial… He has an animation preset for a 360 Orbit… Just apply that preset to a layer, duplicate it, and work from there.

You could actually control the camera moves in the shatter effect, or link it to an external camera.

Probably the same way Darby explained the Iceman thing for you except try it this way. Add Particular to a solid to use your keyed person as a layer emitter, with flames. Make a comp about 100 by 100, add fractal noise to a solid and then apply a mask. Drop that into your human torch composition, turn off the visibility, and set particular to use that as a custom particle. Then add an adjustment layer on top with colorama applied and use the fire preset for output cycle. Adjust to taste. Then you can create a new composition with whatever footage you want to use as a background and drop the human torch comp into it.
If you have something already shot… use vector paint to rotoscope each frame to mask the person out. Bill O’Neill covers it in-depth in one of his light storm tutorials here on the COW.

I appreciate all you and Kathryn do Ron. I took a couple of web classes and that is nothing compared to this. You all do outstanding work and I like the way the site is setup.
People just need to know they might have to click a couple of things, maybe burn a few calories. Or they could just use the search function.
If its a podcast, it will also be in the main tutorial page because they upload bigger versions for those who don’t like the iPod sized stuff.
Keep up the great work Ron…

Its Jerzy Droza Jr…. look under the tutorials section

Oh and if it doesn’t look right, check out Andrew Kramer’s tutorial on Advanced Sky Replacement. He covers procedural mattes in there.

Try duplicating your footage and using the second instance as an inverted luma matte. If the edges appear grainy, apply a fast blur to the top layer. My first assumption would be people are making a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be.

unless I’m misunderstanding, which is mostly the case a lot of times.

February 29, 2008 at 5:18 pm in reply to: Explosion in very shocking footageOh my apologies. When I read that you tried motion tracking, I assumed you tracked and applied the points to the footage layer itself.
I believe Andrew Kramer is coming out with a new tutorial soon regarding this matter. Until then, I know he mentions a couple of things in his blog on videocopilot.net to try under his stabilizing footage entry.
I know you aren’t going to be stabilizing the footage, but you might be able to reverse motion track it. If you can stabilize it, then he has a technique in his Demon Face Warp tutorial that you can refer to.
