Kona LH, Control Panel version 5.1
Just looked, and see there’s a 6.0 update. I’m downloading that now. Will that help me out any?

[Arnie Schlissel] “And you don’t find this convenient? Next you’ll be saying that you don’t like paying your taxes!”
No, as a matter of fact I don’t find it convenient to have to scroll through 30 options when I only use 2 or 3. I never edit in pal, 50, or 1080, so why should I make myself sort through them? I’m not telling any one to fix this for me, just tell me where they are stored so I can mess things up myself!
And, not to get too far off topic, I don’t think anyone actually LIKES paying taxes, I certainly don’t. Especially when they are being used to bail out a select few people that are the reason the economy is in the shape its in. I’d much rather hold onto my own money and donate to local charities that would take care of the things the feds are doing now, but much more efficiently.
And no, I’m not a democrat.

Sorry, Chris, was busy scribing my own diatribe whilst you were posting yours, so I didn’t get a chance to read it be I posted mine.
Yes, We’ll see what AJA has to say about it. Probably stored in some arcane folder packaged inside several application packages hidden in the system software somewheres so gents like me don’t go buggering around with it.
Still searching, though..

You guys are both thinking of the “Easy Setups” presets, to which I have already gone through and moved the ones that I don’t use.
I am speaking (typing, actually) of options under “Audio/Video Settings->Video Playback”
If you have a kona card installed, and you go to that list (option+apple+Q) it fills your screen with a list of every possible framerate and resolution in SD and HD that is a pain to scroll through to get to the right setting.
I didn’t expect AJA to telepathically read my mind and know what setups I use. That would be extremely difficult to get through my aluminium hat….
This is more of an annoyance of something that takes 2.3 seconds when it should take 1 second. As you might gather, I am a shortcut freak as well. Almost no one else in the office can use my machine because of the heavily modified keyboard shortcuts I have set up. Kinda nice, keeps everyone off my machine!
I emailed AJA support, so they should get back to me soon.

Yes, top agree with Noah, it double totally rocks. We shot some comparison footage with our HPX2000 after we got the intra board installed, and its the akin to the difference between DV25 and DV50, especially when doing effects and color correction. Only issue with me is that it is Intel Macs only. (Sad clown) But, we’ve had some good months lately, and the leases on our current computers is coming due at the end of next month, so we will probably be getting a new batch of computers (and promise raids) so, we will all be Intel and start shooting avc-intra (Happy Clown!)
Until then, its DVCPROHD…

yes AE will to it, in fact I’m bored with doing it in AE, so I’m trying to find other ways of doing it. Thought it would be neat to try it in a 3d app so I can incorporate other fully 3D elements into my comps. While doing this I hope to learn the level of interaction between C4d and AE. Not sure what exactly can be passed back and forth yet.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the tips and links, fellas.
Walter- I saw this workflow, but wasn’t sure that would get me the best possible looking file. I wasn’t sure if there was any obscure settings that would allow my video to encoded better, but take 3 times longer. Which normally I wouldn’t do, but in this case, I would like to get the best possible out of compressor.
export to compressor and make a copy of one of the apple presets.
change the frame controls section to be on and set the resizing to be highest qualitThaaaaat’s the stuff I’m looking for. I know it will take an obscene amount of time, but for this client it may be worth it. It also might be worth it to look into setting up a compressor render farm. I know, I know, its a pain in the arse, and sometimes it works, and then the moon shifts in the sky and then it doesn’t work, but it might be worth it.
Thanks!

Boy, its unfortunate that you have come to this conclusion, we have a major client that shoot DVCPRO50 30p all the time, and it looks great. we’ve been editing their stuff for years. Now, the main difference is that they are shooting to tape via the sdx900. we load it over firewire (with 422 control, of course, FW control drives me nuts!) And I have a Kona LH card as well. I know my kona card can get pissy when changing output formats from an HD project to a SD project, and I have to go and reset the card through the control panel. But if I’m not mistaken, the output controls in FCP (option+apple+Q) remotley control the Kona card as well, essentially using the FCP controls instead of having to go to the Kona control panel. Sometimes this doesn’t work on my system, and I have to go back and forth until it gets straightened out.
The one thing that DOES bother me though, is that you said that it looks perfect on your FCP viewer window, just not on output. Doesn’t that tell you that there is an output problem somewhere? Is your card upressing the SDI output? If so, that will make it look crappy. Can you export a QT, burn it to dvd then play it back on a settop box, what does it look like then? A few more steps of troubleshooting should find the problem. I have a hard time believing the issue is with the compression scheme. What is your final destination? Output via SDI, DVD?
Also, we use that monitor as a feild shooting monitor, and it looks like crap when you send sd footage into it. We use out HPX2000 via SDI into it, and people ask if there is something wrong with it! That monitor doesn’t do a good job of upressing sd footage. It should have a pixel to pixel option, then it would be useable with sd footage. We only shoot HD now, so we don’t have to worry about it.
