We shoot all our green screen on our 200 at 720 60P. Pulls beautifuly easy great looking keys, and we can treat it in post for a softer look after the keying is done.

I put a slug layer on the top of all the other layers, then pull the opacity to 0%. Then I do my clip markers on that, just remember to keep the track selector turned on so whenever you make an edit it will foloow. Not really elegant, but it works.

Ohhhhh, this is a little gem, isn’t it?
Looks deceptively like a little app I downloaded a while ago called readXML.
Couple of questions, I need to be able to batch change sequence markers to DVD chapter markers. Talking lots of markers, used for subtitles. Is there a way to do this with your little app? Or is there a way to change them with in an exported XML then reimport them into the seq with your app?

Just bumping this thread, I am starting my first big subtitle job here next week, will be english and Spanish audio track,s and 16 additional subtitled languages.
Just seeing if there was anything that came out of this discussion beyond what is here. I think that I have my workflow hammered out, so the hard work will be done by the translation company.
See my other post about how to change the marker type in batches. My sequnces will have lots of markers, and having to change each one manually to a dvd chapter marker will be painful. If there is another way to do it, I would like to know!!!

Wow, good response to an old post!
Its been a while, and I have had the chance to really sit and play with the camera. I’ve gotten a copy of the Goodmans guide for the SDX900, which is basically the same camera with the P@ slots insteaad of the deck. So, 90% of the menus and explanations are similar if not the same.
So, I have gotten a baisc understanding of the different terms that are used to describe the way the different adjustments work, and how they affect the picture. I know what knobs to touch, and which to leave alone!!!
I have gotten to the point that am now engineering shoots for our main cline that has product which is painted a very particular color (red!!!!!) and needs to match wheather we are inside or outside, sun, clouds, etc. Being an editor it helps me understand what I can fix in pot and what needs to be fixed on set. I really like being on the shoot, then being the editor for the video. And, my client understands what the benifit is to having me on the shoot.
I wish there was a quick and easy way to control the playback of thumbnails from the paintbox, though.
So, thanks for the feedback, we do have a matte box, and use it for lens shading, but haven’t used any filters yet, as we are in the middle of a project. Next one though, will be a lot of outdoor shooting, so we will be using the polarizer there. I have saved my settings files for a number of different scenarios, interview, warehouse, manufacturing, in SD and HD resolutions.
Holy grail would be being able to manage the clips in the camera remotly (rename, add scene numbers, notes, etc), but that might still come. I would even work on a PC if I had to to get that functionalilty!!!

Yes, I am using the “Proper Subtitle” thingies in DVDSP. Its basically a cheaper way than having to do 8 voiceovers in different languages. It works pretty slick, because with the markers that get imported into dvdsp with the video, you can check to make sure that the subtitle start/end in the DVDSP timeline lines up with the markers, which came from FCP. Good way to ensure that everything is lining up before the final goes out.
I’d be interested in hearing your take on it, or anyone else’s. We are having big demand for this for several of our clients (especially with videos already completed!!) so, any way to make it easier for me (selfish, ain’t I?) the better!!!!

Yes, that wouldinterest me, we are starting to do alot of translations for our videos, and are putting together some killer pricing on adding non-english subtitles to new and old videos. So anything to ease the workflow would be greatly appreciated. We currently have a workflow, but it is a bit arcane-
1. Drop markers into timeline to indicate start/stop of subtitles-
2. Export XML of sequence
3. Extract marker data with a a little application (can’t recall the name of it right now)
4. Paste the marker data (name, in and out TC’s) into an excel spreadsheet
5. Copy/Paste English text from script into corresponding cell in spreadsheet
6. send off to translator who fills in the cell next to the english with other language translation
7. Delete English column
8. Save as tab deliminated text file
9. Search/Replacewith commas, save with .stl extension
10. Import compressed video (with embedded markers) into DVDSP
11. Import STL into track and see if subtitles line up with markers.
12. Repeat for next language.Whew!! This is what I came up with without purchasing any other software, which I might just to ease my pain!!!!
I am open to suggestions with this workflow, but I am interested in yours and that might save me a couple of steps.

Yes, you need to format the card properly, and the correct folder needs to be copied to it. it took me 2-3 tries before I got it right. Don’t quote me on it, but I think the PRIVATE folder needs to be at the root of the SD card.
Alos, I have registered my 2000 on the panny website with the auto checker and logger information, and it is pretty slick, if not a odd from being translated from Japanese to english. Thier idea of web design is a little different than ours, but it works pretty slick. Will make record keeping very easy in case we ever want to sell the camera, all the records are there for easy perusal.

Well, I figure alot of people are with angst on their fingertips as they type trying to solve problems, so any amount of levity would help. I often force myself to laugh like a deranged hyena when my computer isn’t telepathically doing what I want it to. Not sure if it helps at all, but it makes the other people in the office stay away…
