wow. this worked for me too. so frustrating seeing the usability of the software go backwards. It doesn’t really matter to me what the core of the software is based on, if they have to re-write it or what. The key is that for the people using the product, the usability of it diminished. Its like Tesla updating the firmware in their cars and telling you “hey, now you can accelerate a bit faster, and the radio works better, but you can’t turn left anymore.”

The fact that the only factor in whether it works or not is if the CTI is visible or not most likely is a bug. I’ve reported it, and here’s hoping that they clear that one up fast. Its really changed my workflow for syncing animations to audio, and not for the better.

Bob, just found this wonderful explanation and expression that is working perfectly for me. Thanks for the excellent explanation and knowledge. Even from back in 2009, this just made my life a lot easier!

Yeap, same here. We will see if anything comes of it, but this sounds like another “Its adobes fault! No its apples fault!” situation. I’m dealing with other issues with AE and rendering to our network fibre channel storage arrays as well.

I’ve had this same problem, and I’m on 10.8. The cursor doesn’t disappear, but this is what happens-

    Working in AE,
CMD+TAB to final cut (or other program that covers both monitors)
CMD+TAB back to AE and no windows.
CMD+H to hide AE (even though I can’t see it anyway)
CMD+TAB again to go back to AE and there it is.

So, it seems that AE’s windows being covered by oanother apps windows doesn’t like to show up again.

The solution is to CMD+H AE to actually HIDE AE, then tab bag to it to show it again. I’ve gotten so used to this, I don’t even think about it anymore, I just have accepted it as part of my workflow. Would be nice to see a proper solution, though:)

I am on OSX 10.8.2 On a fully loaded MacPro
    AE is version 11.0.1.12

Doesn’t do it all the time, seems like some time has to pass before this little bug goes into effect.

It takes some working to get it to do what you want, but it worked great for me. But now that you can export sequence markers directly from FCP to a tab delimited text file now, I no longer need it. I opened up the app, but got a whole list of Applescript errors. I was running it fine on 10.5, but now on 10.6 I don’t think it will work properly. You can certainly give it a try, though.

Good luck! I’ve found other xml readers out there for extracting marker data as well, the other one, which is not free is call oxygen.

    https://www.oxygenxml.com/

it will read the XML layout and present it in a table based display where you can then manipulate the data in a column/row environment. Worked pretty slick to prep some subtitles for web based flash player.

August 22, 2011 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Have wiggle expression snap

Wonder why I didn’t see those in my search… I did find another way to do it by reducing my seq FPS to 10 with just the standard wiggle expression applied. But this will work better, as I don’t want all my animation being quantized to 10fps.

    Thanks!

August 11, 2011 at 1:17 pm in reply to: Replace footage function is moving the layer

Hey all, I didn’t try the precomp thing, as I didn’t want to get into precomps for these simple sequences.

Dave- This trick worked for the most part, the only problem is that the keyframes are locked relative to the layer, so when I hit the left bracket to move the layer to the correct time on the timeline, the keyframes would slide out of sync. So, to fix that, after I moved the new layer to the correct time, I put the playhead at the first keyframe of the old layer, hit u to expose the keyframed properties of the new layer, highlighted the properties, then hit command X then command V to cut then paste the keyframes to the correct time in the seq. Worked slick.

Then I got smart and created a new comp, copied and pasted all the stuff from the old comp into the new one, and I was able to replace the footage properly without going through all the above BS. It was something in the comp that was goofing it up.

    Sheesh…
