I saw there was a firmware update (April 2008) for the HPX-3000 – I bought mine back in November 2007. I downloaded the update off the Panasonic site to an SD card and have followed the directions on how to do the update, but after going through the steps in the menu (opening the thumbnail screen, selecting “operation”, etc..) there is no “Update” choice to get the process started. Am I missing something? The only directions on the Panasonic site for “update procedure” were directions for the HPX-2000 (nothing for the 3000) so I was just going by those. Anyway – any help would be appreciated. I also think Panasonic should hire someone from Apple or any good tech company to make everything easier to read, download, and find answers to your questions. The user interface on all this stuff is so early 90’s…
    Thanks.

Refer to the operating manual. The procedure is simple and straightforward, and the directions clear.

To make things even easier, Panasonic has software that will checks all your P2 gear to make sure each firmware version is the latest and correct. I don’t know any other camera manufacturer who makes it any easier.

Page 193 of the operating manual is just a blank page. All it says at the top is to refer to the following website for updates:

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/

I’ve done all the steps, but there is no “update” selection in the camera’s menu when you get to the final choice. I don’t know if this is a particular problem unique to the 3000. Do you have a HPX-3000 (and have done the firmware update) or are you just offering general advice? Thanks.

The sd card needs to be formatted in the camera. The update file that you download needs to be placed in the directory FW

Yes, you need to format the card properly, and the correct folder needs to be copied to it. it took me 2-3 tries before I got it right. Don’t quote me on it, but I think the PRIVATE folder needs to be at the root of the SD card.

Alos, I have registered my 2000 on the panny website with the auto checker and logger information, and it is pretty slick, if not a odd from being translated from Japanese to english. Thier idea of web design is a little different than ours, but it works pretty slick. Will make record keeping very easy in case we ever want to sell the camera, all the records are there for easy perusal.

Thanks for the info. I’m on vacation, but will try it again as soon as I return. I did format the SD card in the camera, but can’t get the file to show up after I put it on the card (using a card reader attached to my computer) I had the file named “private” at the root.
    All the best,
    Doug
