    Hey Bill,

You dont want big page file sizes – the smaller the better. Otherwise you just end up running out of memory and the app will eventually slow and bomb out. Big page file spikes are not goof either.

I spoke to Andrew today and i believe he sent you the latest beta cut which has seemed to address the “serious error” with the project you sent through, if you still have the errors, please follow up with Andrew – we have fixed a few other bugs reported here on the cow too. So a few days tidy up and we’ll get it out.

Oh and Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends in the US.

    Cheers,

    Regards,

    Claus-Peter,

I think we have gone as far as we can go with “cow based” support. I think the best approach is to ring our office on Monday on +61 3 9682 4770 and ask for Andrew in PC support, he can go through with you one on one and try and duplicate exactly what you see whilst on the line with you.

    Hi Bill,

Baz really knows his stuff. If i get a mail from him with an issue he has seen i know we have a bug even before we try to repo (-:

Seriously though, he is probably the best beta tester i have, EVERY time he has reported something, he has been right and his investigations and descriptions allow us to track the bug down very quickly and do a point update.

    Cheers,

    Hi Steen,

I will be in Tokyo all next week but i have arranged Luke and Kris to take a look this – If there is a bug or an error with something we are doing, i want to know about it! And fix it!

Thanks for the detailed feedback, this really helps us try exactly the same thing you are.I’ll check in with Luke and Kris when i can next week to see what the results were.

    Cheers,

    Hi Steen,

Thanks for the note, our d/converter assumes and interlaced image, while i agree 25PsF in theory is basically the same thing i can image that certain images would not look the best when d/converted from a PsF rather than Interlaced.

I’ll get the guys to run exactly the same test with the same footage as PsF instead of the 1080i/50 we ran from for the testing in the earlier post.

    Cheers,

November 10, 2005 at 12:19 pm in reply to: 5.2.2 some question

    Hi Claus-Peter,

4.7 is that long ago now, so much code has changed since then. Also the feature set and hardware requirements have changed a great deal – more features take more machine resources.

5.1.1 drivers were certified by Adobe for Premiere Pro 1.5 and for OpenHD (www.openhd.org) Adobe absolutely put our drivers through their paces and we worked very closely with them to get our drivers to a standard that passed their strict requirements. A big part of passing certification in Adobe’s eyes was the project manager feature. If we didnt pass that then certification would not have been given. The majority of the code for 5.2.2 is exactly the same code as the certified 5.1.1

Do you see any of the issues you have reported with 5.1.1? Or is this only showing up in 5.2.2? As something in the newer code may have changed something.

We have more than ten thousand customers using Premiere Pro ranging from the home enthusiast to hollywood guys doing feature film FX work with 4:4:4 using Blackmagic FrameLink for DPX workflows, After Effects and of course Premiere Pro – honestly we are not getting reports of issues like this.

    Cheers,

    Hi Tony,

We have done a pile of tests too – just have not yet posted them up but we will in the next few days.

We have compared our HD D5 down conversion (a 20k d/converter option on the deck), DeckLink hardware and software d/conversion, FCP and AE. We were coming from a 1080i/50 tape. The DeckLink d/converters stood up very well next to D5, AE looked the best which we expected. When we post the pictures you can decide for yourself.

You can not expect ANY realtime d/converter to look as good as a render from AE as it has unlimited time to process complex math. A hardware realtime conversion does not have that luxury. (well maybe teranex systems but they are designed to do one thing and they do it extremely well)

If you are expecting the realtime d/conversion to look the same as AE i think your expectations are a bit optimistic.

    Hi Claus-Peter,

Can you tell me when it crashes? Are you capturing, playback, import or is it completely random?

Regarding the Extreme during capture – the test that we did for Bill below was using an Extreme in the bare minimum machine and it was monitoring during capture.

    Cheers,
