No, you don’t need to move those files.

Turns out we needed to go back to the older Blackmagic codec! We were using 5.4, needed to go back to 5.1.

We are having trouble being able to play QT clips captured as BlackMagic 8-bit DVOO. We get audio but just a white screen. They won’t play in FCP at all. FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.1, OS 10.4.6. I’m afraid it may be a QT 7.1 issue, can anyone confirm?

Unplugging the monitor won’t stop the VRAM split – you need to disable it with the card’s interface, usually available in system prefs.

Running two displays with Motion splits the VRAM on the graphics card in half and impacts performance – try disabling one of the displays.

Filters and transitions applied in FCP won’t show up in Motion. That’s just how it works – Motion looks at the underlying media. However, Any transformations from the Motion tab in FCP (scale, opacity, rotation, aspect, etc.) WILL come through in Motion, including keyframes. Thus Jim’s good recommendation to keyframe opacity instead of using a transition. I do wish Motion would include some transition effects to accomodate this workflow issue.

April 29, 2006 at 11:57 pm in reply to: New Macbook Pro 17″ & Motion

I just came back from NAB where I used the new 15″ MacBook Pro and I was shocked how well it works with Motion compared to my 1.5Ghz PowerBook. The processor is an ATI X1600, and the realtime playback was actually realtime playback on this machine, even with a particle system, text animations with blurs, and chroma keying.

Try turning on fixed resolution for the background layer in Motion.

You need to 1) set your background to 0% opacity in edit>project properties (should be that way by default) and 2) export as “lossless plus alpha”. But why export at all? Just import the Motion project file itself into FCP and you’ll have your alpha channel.

Set the Traversal to Custom and animate it from -100 to 0 – this will make the animation go backwards.
