February 10, 2006 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Problem With New Driver 1.2 with Kona-2 and SDI Output 625i25 PALHere’s a suggestion… Run the uninstaller program in the Kona Utilities Folder in your Applications folder, then reboot and reinstall the 1.2 drivers. And try yoour problem again. If it happens again exactly as you said, you’ll need to contact AJA directly to let them know of this problem.
I, too, have found a bug. I use a PDW-1500 XDCAM machine for my digitize and record deck and if I do not turn on my machine first before I startup the computer, the Kona2 serial port will not initialize until I reboot my Mac. This occurs every single time. BUG!

February 9, 2006 at 5:08 pm in reply to: Upgrading to Tiger and FCP Studio, do I need to install FCP4.5 again? No…. you don’t have to install FCP 4.5 to install and upgrade package of FCS 5.0. It will ask you in the setup for your previous serial number however. That’s the only place you need it. Final Cut Studio comes with its own serial number, so you’ll have to enter than one when it asks you to do so.

February 7, 2006 at 12:15 am in reply to: “Out of Disc Space” Error message every time i try to export timeline to QT movI would have to be it will be a very very large file if you’re going to uncompressed. Two hours of video will take up about 150 gig of drive space… Looks like you might need to invest in another drive to do this or reconsider how to output your video.
If you are going to output to DV, then it will take about 28 gig of drive space. Much easier to swallow than the uncompressed since your video will not look any better doing this anyway.

Using Graham’s plugins are perfect for this. We’ve been editing shows this way for the past two years. You just have to make sure that you set the plugins to 30p instead of 24p. Last year, we used Canon XL1S cameras using the frame mode. Video looks great for the budget. Recently, we’ve upgraded to Sony’s XDCAM and HDV using a similar process.
Graham’s plugins will give you all of the color option that you’ll need and corrections to smooth the video out for broadcast. Take it from a loyal user and fellow frame mode shooter and editor.

February 6, 2006 at 11:55 pm in reply to: “Out of Disc Space” Error message every time i try to export timeline to QT movI would have to say that depending on your codec that you are using, you are trying to go past your 20 gig limit, which, by the way, is going to be way past your 20% of free drive space requirement.

Check out the Nattress Film Effects 2.5 – https://www.nattress.com/filmEffects.htm
I love them and they are much much better than FCP Deinterlace plugin. By the way, the look you are looking for is called deinterlaced video and FCP does a great job of this. The Nattress plugins do the best job in the fastest amount of time.

Just make sure that whatever capture preset that you are using allows for four channels of audio. Otherwise, you’ll have to edit a capture preset to allow for four channels of audio and then you have to select them in your batch capture window.

January 31, 2006 at 8:45 pm in reply to: multiple clips in fcp5 w/HDV and I only want one. You’ve just found the HDV bug! Sorry….. there is only one way around this bug. Don’t digitize in HDV. I know…. how do you do that? You’ll have to have a converter like the Miranda or Convergent Design boxes to digitize in DVCPRO HD or any other HD format. HDV and FCP are not very friendly but something tells me that at NAB, they will become more friendly.

Thanks…. But how do you do a full uninstall of the Kona2? The AJA IO has an uninstaller program but not for the Kona2. Can you give me the steps to fully uninstall it?
