I’m sorry… I didn’t clarify myself whenI was talking about capturing DV. We are using Sony’s HDV Z1 cameras for secondary camera work and sometimes main camera work. To digitize SD video, I have to use my IO LA using the component input via component out of the HDV deck. The down-conversion is in the deck. The video is as sharp as our XDCAM discs, so matching up is just a few click using the color corrector 3-way.

Oh yeah, my HDV firewire deck and the IO LA are connected to different firewire busses (one firewire card and one built-in the Mac).

Yes, I am aware of the Kona2 and the IO LA having independent drivers and software but according the AJA they should run together beautifully but not so on my part… The hardware checks out just fine on their own. the only problem I’m having is in FCP 5.0.4

Thanks, Jerry. I’ve been doing that already but I was hoping there was a way in the Browser window to deselect tracks. You know, some undocumented trick to doing this.

To explain myself better, I’m using the Flip4Mac MXF importer plugin and it converts the raw MXF files into Quicktime files with all eight channels. But here’s my problem. I only record four channels in the field and sometimes less. The plugin doesn’t allow for choosing the audio channels you want. Such as, I went on a shoot and only used two channels of audio on the disc (XDCAM) – so I only need two channels. But the plugin converts the files and makes them with all eight channels of audio.

Kinda puts me in a pickle and wastes time when I have to drop them to the timeline and then delete the channels that I do not need. I was just hoping someone out there knew of a trick that I could save time and select the channels that I need. By the way, yes, I have already contacted Flip4Mac and made my suggestion to them. Funny, I was the first person to suggest this since the plugin has been out since NAB last year.

It should be the same as any other version of the software BUT this one is compatible with the new Intel-based Macs. Here’s a puzzling thing…. the only Intel-based Macs, at this moment, are the iMac and the MacBook Pro. So, where are the Intel-based full size Macs? Why did Apple release the software long before the full size systems are available? Hmmmm……..

I’m sorry but your only hope is that you can watch it on a standard def LCD monitor. HD LCD monitors only magnify the problems of standard def video. It will show you your compression very very well. And no, rendering to uncompressed isn’t going to make it better. Sorry! I have those same issues at my facility.

I’m still trying to figure out what AJA means by HDV support. My Kona2 doesn’t do HDV but it has support for it? Can anybody explain this to me? I’ve tried to email AJA last week but I still haven’t gotten a response from them on this.

And, the Kona2 doesn’t accelerate any RT effects for me that I can tell.

I have this problem all of the time with my Kona2 card. But I did find out what’s going on. You have to make sure that your machine is powered up before you boot up your Mac. After it starts up, you’ll have to restart it again. Then, “poof!” It works!

I have emailed AJA about this and discussed it here several times before I came up with my own answer. I’ve tried all of the same things you have but give this one a try, it’s what I have to do every single day.

Here’s a suggestion… Run the uninstaller program in the Kona Utilities Folder in your Applications folder, then reboot and reinstall the 1.2 drivers. And try yoour problem again. If it happens again exactly as you said, you’ll need to contact AJA directly to let them know of this problem.

I, too, have found a bug. I use a PDW-1500 XDCAM machine for my digitize and record deck and if I do not turn on my machine first before I startup the computer, the Kona2 serial port will not initialize until I reboot my Mac. This occurs every single time. BUG!
