Bud, I’m with you!
I just got in my Mac Pro and it is terrible with playback. I, too, have an ATTO FC 4gig card and all of the updates applied that is possible. But I still get dropped frames, audio skips AND audio pops and crackles!
This has been very disappointing! ATTO says their latest driver 2.41 is Mac Pro compatible. I’m not so sure about that. The ATTO config utility is toast for the Mac Pro.

Well, Francese… You cannot output a 720p timeline to a 1080i deck a WITHOUT some sort of cross conversion. You have a few possibilities here.
One, you could nest your 720p timeline into a 1080i timeline BUT you’ll notice right off of the bat that the video will not fill the screen, so you’ll have to blow it up to the correct size. That’s going to make it look yukky (Yes, that’s a tech term).
Two, you could send your timeline out to Compressor and have it cross-convert your program to 1080i HDV. Then import the converted file into a 1080i timeline, render, and then output as usual. BUT this is going to take quite some time depending upon the length of your program.
Thirdly, and the best option, output your program thru a capture card like the Kona3 or Blackmagic cards that can cross-convert on the fly to an HD machine that has HD-SDI inputs. This is a real problem for you since you don’t have access to this.
In your best interest, option two is your ONLY real option to output your program. But I did want you to know all of the possibilities.

Did you change the reel names in your Browser window? That is where the files get their name from. You can’t just change the files, you need to change the names on the clips in the Browser window, too.

Interesting! I seem to have the same issue.
Seems like the folks at AJA are making us output safe levels only. That’s good and bad.

For about $50, Behringer makes a Eurorack UB1002, which you can purchase from B&H Photo & Video. That will solve all of your problems.

Isn’t great to know that there are companies out there that still believe in customer support and service. I have a Mac Pro system being built by the fine folks at ProMax. They caught the error before shipping and got the update from Apple and the new Kona drivers BEFORE they shipped my system. Isn’t that AWESOME!

Here’s something to keep in mind…
How about going with SATA drives?
You can get a SATA notebook card to use SATA drives for editing, which would give you the ability of HD editing on your MacBook Pros. The tough part may be finding one that will work with the new MacBook Pros but keep your eyes and ears glued to the web and something should pop up soon.
And if all else fails and you have to go firewire, then make sure that you spend a few extra bucks and get a G-Raid drive. They are much tougher and more rugged than anything on the market.
