Have you looked at the TerraBlock system by Facilis Technology? I’m not sure if its foreign capable BUT its all that you want and best of all, no XServe attached. Its a completely self-contained unit that will edit everything including 2k material. I looked at a demo at NAB where they showed a 2k feature film on it. It absolutely amazed me! It comes in any size configuration and can easily hookup multiple boxes for additional storage. If you still doubt me, contact Gary Adcock. He has tons of storage using this system.
We are getting ours installed next week.

Well, the question has to be… what is the major of footage shot? Is it 1080p or 720p? If its 720p, then I’d convert the 1080p to 720p and the opposite if its 1080p.

Now, that is crazy… Why would you want to convert anymore? If its beacuse you only have an HDCAM-SR, then I would consider renting the D5 machine to keep it clean. All of those converts can make for poor quality on the final output.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.”Well, if you have Shake, it will do awesome slo-mo OR the Twixtor plugin. Motion does ok, but can be difficult to use. FCP’s slo-mo has something to be desired.

Ok… that does present a problem.
Ok… Since you are using DV, I assume that you want to record four channels to DV and import a four channel DV tapes. I’m not sure about the DSR-11 but you can set your DSR-45 to 32k audio which will give you four tracks of audio to record and playback.
BUT here’s the problem. FCP will only use 2 channels of DV audio at a time. So…. doing four channels of DV (input & output) is not possible in FCP. Sorry.
One solution is to purchase an AJA IO and use it with a DSR-1500a with SDI outputs. Then you can use a custom preset to set your audio to four seperate channels. OR you could setup two different Easy Setups – one with channels 1 &2 and the other with channels 3 & 4 ONLY after your set your cameras and machines to 32k audio and then you capture your clips twice so that you get all four channels. But this will only get the audio in but not out.

In the US, its not uncommon at all. I’ve seen all sorts of commercials in 16:9. Its inevitable. We are in a transitory mode towards HD and no matter what, its always 16:9. You can’t please everybody, so just concentrate on pleasing your client and don’t worry about the public. Remember, the client pays the bill!

What video capture card do you have installed in your computer? AJA or Blackmagic? Both support eight channels of audio input.

Well, sorry I couldn’t help. BUT if it means anything to you.
I saw this same problem recently with a large project on 90 min BetaSP using the AJA IO. I ended up with several cuts beacuse of the phantom timecode breaks when capture the entire tape. I trudged through it and made my DVDs like usual. But thankfully that was all I needed to do.

Go into your User Preferences and change “on timecode break:” to warn after capture.
