  • capturing from a HDV GY-HD100 to FCP

The entire thing was shot with this camera, at 24p. I cannot seem to find the right setting for the capturing. If FCP doesn’t support this, is there other way around it?

Well… the latest update tackles this issue directly. Bad news, I don’t know when it will be made available. Hopefully soon!

Well the update is available I shot a project on 720p25. Just trying to load it in the updated FCP 5.1.2. I used easy setup to preset for 720p25, but FCP tells me it is Unable to initialize Capture Device. Apple isn’t very clear on how to connect. I cannot find any instructions on this. Anyone with experience?

I found this tiny little button just st thr tsil of the GY HD100. It is for choosing the IEEE1394 output: HDV or DV. It should be set to hdv and then FCP recognizes the device.
New problem is that it don’t capture a whole tape in one piece. Any experiences?

What process are you using to capture, and what’s happening on your computer? Is it breaking up at shot changes, or is it doing something else?

    All the best,

    Tom

Capture preset is hdv. Device control HDV Firewire Basic 25 fps. Now i’m going to try out HDV Firewire 25fps. I both tried output from the GY-HD100 in ‘native’ and 720p (is ther a difference?).
The first time i made the “on timecode break” do “make new clip” And that is what it did. Only there are supposed to be no timecode breaks. The whole tape is shot in one single take. Now it is preset to “warn after capture” and it tells me there is a stream problem which could be a tape thing.

While i’m writing this it is going well formore then 5 minutes now! Maybe device control is the bottleneck here…

Succesfully captured a whole tape! The second tape i experience a lot of trouble. Capture aborted due to “timecode break” or “problem with the incoming stream” according to FCP. There could be no timecodebreak because evrything was shot in one take… Going to try capture this tape for the 5th time now!

Anyone using the GY HD100 in 720p25? All experiences are welcome. I like to know if this is a problem on my system or settings or a final cut pro problem?

I am having the same problem, since I up-graded to 5.2
I am using 30p though, I have the HD-50 deck..
after about 15 to 30 seconds the video capture aborts and i get a ‘stream data’ or tape damaged data error.

I was happy when FCP came out with the codecs and setting to capture JVC HDV..
Beore you had to use the Intermediate Setting…

Now nothing works… So it is an FCP and up-grade problem.
Another post suggested trashing preferences, but I am new to FCP, I am from PPro ..
    Thanks

I tried deleting preferences also. Did’nt work out. I contacted JVC and they told me the GY-HD100 needs a firmware update. If you experience the same problem, contact your dealer or JVC in your country and ask for the need of firmware update.

Other advice i’ve got is using good (jvc) hdv-tapes. I used common sony dvm60pr3. Didn’t test with hdv-tapes yet but it is worth trying.
