I had to translate this so I am also sending the spanish version as clarification in case I am not clear and someone there speakes spanish.

We have to capture material from 2 different tapes with the same time code. We do one batch list, duplicate it as new master clip and change the reel number from the browser in order to capture the second tape. The first capture is without problems, but the second one wants to use the same names as the first. So far, we go in and change the names in the finder, and then reconect. Is there another option?

Did you change the reel names in your Browser window? That is where the files get their name from. You can’t just change the files, you need to change the names on the clips in the Browser window, too.

i do this while logging. After you log the first clip, drag it back into the log and capture window (all of the clips attributes are now preserved) then I change the clips reel name and camera angle (if you are using the multiclip feature). Sorry I don’t speak Spanish, otherwise I’d translate for you.

You could just start a second Final cut pro project and do your capturing from the second tape in there.

Then, when you’ve got everything captured, open both projects at the same time and drag the clips from one into the other.

That’s how I’d do it… mind you, I’m not a particularly efficient person.

This is what works for me…

    1. Log and load footage from tape 1
    2. Select all clips in the bin and duplicate as new master clip
    3. Drag those clips into a new bin
    4. Take those clips in the new bin and make them offline, but LEAVE THE MEDIA ON THE DRIVES
    5. Change the reel number of the new clips to Tape 2
    6. Capture your footage from Tape 2

    Hope this helps…

This all seems very complicated . I haven’t done this yet, but often shoot multi-cam projects with two or three cameras having the same timecodes. Can you just change the reel names and put each reel in it’s own bin?

Essentially, that’s what I’m doing with the steps I’ve outlined above.
