Sounds like you might have a issue with the G5 itself… Could be on the way out. Do you have an Apple Protection Plan on those systems? Are you near an Apple store?

I agree fully with everyone who chimed in…
BUT, let me give you a word of warning! Mac Pro machines are a totally new type of platform. You can’t just use any memory. Some manufacturers will make memory that will work but likely your system will become unstable. Getting match pairs of RAM is absolutly crucial in a Mac Pro!
My suggestion, since I have a lot of experience with this, is to purchase 4 – 1 gig bars of Kensington memory and take out your Apple memory. And, oh yeah… Please read this tech doc about the proper placement of the memory for FCP. It will keep you from pulling out your hair!

How were these recorded? 60i, 30p or 24p?
Do you have a Sony HDV tape machine in house? According to Sony, any of their HDV machine will play tapes recorded on the V1U.
Sounds like you hit a timecode glitch. DV and HDV will do this. I’ve seen it many times. You can set in your preferences to “Warn after capture” instead of “Create new clip”. This might get you past your glitch.

You might ought to check how much drive you have left. FCP will stop if you get down to a certain percentage of drive space left.

WOW! Sure sounds like a mess!
Ok… How much time do you have and how much footage (in number of clips) do you have?
You can mix any format on the timeline, BUT you have to render it each time just to see it. Hopefully, your SD video is the majority. If not, I think I might look at the majority of the footage and edit based on that. You know, the less rendering, the faster your edit.
As for your graphics… This is supposed to be a 16×9 edit, right? Well, if you make your graphics for 16×9, then they will be fine on a 4×3 tv. If you need, you can have two timelines… one 16×9 and one 4×3 and build your graphics off of that.

Can I ask why you want to do all of your graphics in AE? Motion is much faster and editable from the FCP timeline.

You’re right… Last year was a big disappointment for me. But I knew something big must have been in the works. It only makes sense… An OctoCore running Leopard using FCP 6 Extreme.

I assume that you read the Apple doc. Its true. I have the orginal Apple memory (2×512) sitting on the shelf. I have a total of 8 gig in my system.

I have no need other than the Apple Software Update tells me that I need this… I’m not having any problems that anybody else isn’t having. And Yeah… I know about the company stnace thing… but they seem to be slow on these. Thus, my reason for posting here.
By the way… I’m done with my first quarter shows and third quarter is a little ways away so I have time to do neccessary maintance and updates.

How does the picture look straight out of the machine? Any error codes?
You might want to invest in a Horta sync generator. They are resonably cheap – less than $300.
