    Try this- no filter needed!

    1) Duplicate a clip and place it above original on the timeline.
    2) Add Gaussian blur to the upper clip.
    3) Enable composite mode on upper clip- “screen” for pro mist or “soft light” for black pro.

Adjusting the amount of blur and using different composite modes can produce a lot of subtile or not so subtile effects.

If you still want a filter, I am very fond of the Nattress Film Effects series

    POV,

I was interested in your post above, but after I put the dup’d clip above and added Gaussian blur, how do Enable the ‘Composite’ mode? Where do find that function? I under what it is (as in Photoshop) but I cannot find that in FCP.

Do yourself a HUGE favor, Ernie….

Go out and get a two-button mouse. It’ll open up a whole world of right-click goodness that you’ll be amazed that you ever lived without.

CTRL-click works, but it’s way more cumbersome than right-clicking.

Joe’s Filters has a nice Difussion Filter that will do this. Also, if you can still find them, Eureka has a Silk Stocking filter that does a good job and it used to be free as well.
