Capturing Probelms on the Sony V1

Hi all,

I have just got back from Africa with an HDV project shot on the new sony V1. I was hoping to use this machine as a capturing device in post but have run into major problems halfway through (40 tapes). Due to the volume of footage I am working by pulling in whole tapes or lrage sections with capture now. The problem is that after a few seconds the message at the bottom of the capture window changes to say “searching for media” and then eventually quits in most cases or the deck just keeps rolling and catpure freezes.

GUessing its not space/speed issues as I have captured much footage already. Feel strongly its to do with teh camera & FCP.

I have tried the following:

2 machines (running 5.0.4 and 5.1.4)
Different cable patching
Different device control settings

How were these recorded? 60i, 30p or 24p?

Do you have a Sony HDV tape machine in house? According to Sony, any of their HDV machine will play tapes recorded on the V1U.

Sounds like you hit a timecode glitch. DV and HDV will do this. I’ve seen it many times. You can set in your preferences to “Warn after capture” instead of “Create new clip”. This might get you past your glitch.

You might ought to check how much drive you have left. FCP will stop if you get down to a certain percentage of drive space left.

Hi again,

I have been shooting on 50i and have plenty of spce. the settings for minimum spce on capture have been checked. All the obvious one like user settings have been checked and I am sure it is not about preferences etc. I have tried capturing on two differnet mchines and using different tapes as well and all yield the same results. Its not that FCP refuses to capture or reports any breaks, it just switches off nad on “capturing now” mode to giving message of “searching for media”. SO bsically its not one “Glitch” in a tape it is continuous failure to capture on all tapes.

Thanks for the ideas to check again… Any other ideas are appreciated???
