Always good to hear.
What brand do you purchase? Or do you build them yourself?
You could say that I lost faith with LaCie but others have failed, too. Mostly major brands that are failing. So far, I have to G-Tech drives that are working well but they are about a year old now and making me nervous.
I have a co-worker that use a Maxtor One Touch III drive that seems to work very well.
Any thoughts?

In that case…. You can’t make apples from turnips.
Like I said earlier… HDV is HD. Stretching the pixels a little doesn’t make the video more out of focus. The issue alot of videographers have is looking at the small LCD screens for focus. I have a shooter that has done this very thing many times. There’s nothing you can do, other than reshoot.

Let me ask you this…
How did you get from HDV to HD?
The reason I ask is that HDV if it 1080 than its the same as regular HD except for the pixel width. If its 720, then the video needs to be cross-converted to 1080. I’ve done this many times without the video looking soft.
I’m not picking on you but HDV is already HD. The only thing you can do is cross-convert 720 to 1080.

The problem is your memory. Mac Pro systems run entirely differently than G5 systems. Memory is a majorly important factor when using a Mac Pro system. Take a look at this document from Apple on this issue with FCP.

Be careful. You might ought to consider backing up your most important files to DVD or DL-DVD. It sure is alot more stable.

I think Plunder hallow is missing something here. The Creative COW is a very large community of media professionals. What better market for a tutorial DVD and reviews of these DVDs whether its a COW DVD or someone else’s doesn’t matter.

Well, you can only use the Sony Transfer software version 1.1. 1.0 has lots of problems such as the on you have seen.
I would suggest that you reinstall the 1.1 version of the software, restart you system and zap your PRAM. Make sure that your XDCAM HD is not connected when you update the software.
ALSO…. You need to make sure that your XDCAM HD machine has the latest software installed in it. This gave me a fit at first. You’ll have to check the manual on how to check your software version. It escapes me at the moment.

I have noticed these kernel crashes you speak of…
I have a Mac Pro Quad 3.0 with 8 gig of RAM, an ATI X1900XT video card, and all of the necessary updates applied. And it seems that my FCS is still a little unstable, even after installing the Pro Application Support updates that were supposed to address these issues.

It works just fine with FCP 5.1.4, if you have it. But now, Sony’s Transfer software requires at least FCP 5.1.1 to work properly and it works well with FCP 6 (with a minor modification that we discussed a couple of weeks ago).
What version of FCP do you have?
Let me say that FCP 6 works absolutely wonderful with XDCAM and XDCAM HD.
