Yet another Firewire device like the Kona I/O HD, limited to DVCProHD and no uncompressed, but the Moto may not even support ProRes 422, while its built into the chipset of the Kona device. For $1700 a Kona LH seems like a better bet to me.

August 3, 2007 at 7:59 pmNot a bad little box to compete with AJA IO HD.
Great for those how have to work with audio in feature productions.
I’m keeping my eyes out on this product.

August 4, 2007 at 7:05 am[David Roth Weiss] “but the Moto”
When I just looked at the link with pictures, I thought to myself, “that looks like a MOTU product. They ripped off the MOTU name!”
Ha, it IS a MOTU product, LOL! Very cool. Very surprising. I would have never have guessed they would enter the video world. We have several of their hardware products in the recording section of my facility and have always been pleased with them. I’m still a MOTU Digital Performer fan as well. I have to say I really, really like the front and rear panel of this unit.
Will be very interesting to see what develops with this. More so, it’ll be interesting to see if they can match the years of video engineering expertise that AJA has so strongly built up. The audio portion of this unit should be strong with their audio background… and the visual feedback… just love it.

August 4, 2007 at 1:11 pmIt *does* look interesting, although I’m not sure the limitation of bringing everything into the DVCProHD codec is going to win over a lot of people. I certainly see someone with a DVCPro camera using it to bring in other footage to match in a timeline, but for everyone else the ProRes codec seems like a much better option. Maybe they’ll broaden their codec support.
And David, the Kona LH is the better deal, I agree, *if* you don’t need the portability that an IOHD or this new MOTU box offer. And BTW, it’s not the Kona IOHD, Kona and IO are 2 different beasts in the AJA stable. 🙂

And from what I’m hearing, AJA’s Io HD will support Color as well. I wonder if this one will.

August 5, 2007 at 5:30 pmWhat I like about these devices most is that they are external, and they would be great with notebooks, so, portability, flexibility, convenience is what I’d be buying if I went with one of these.
What I’d like to see though, is a few different versions with specialized uses, as AJA did with the original iOs. Seems it would negate a lot of unneeded features for some of us and make for some more affordable products.
