Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro
Frequent COW contributor and Final Cut Studio editor Wayne Carey takes a look at Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro by Shane Ross, the first FCP title in The Creative COW Master Series. Shane shares the secrets to media management that he’s developed in his film broadcast editing career. Wayne takes a close look at what Shane has to say — and a close look at Shane’s iPod — to discover workflow advice that works for every project, large or small.Click on the link above to find Wayne’s review.

July 28, 2007 at 6:52 amThanks Wayne…thanks for the kind words.
This DVD comes from the many questions people ask on the forums about how to organize their projects…what goes where. And also from me working on projects with other people and being completely lost in their mess of a project. But I also come from an assistant background…having to capture footage and organize projects for the editors in a uniform manner.
As Wayne says…there are many ways to skin a cat, and my methods might not work for everyone, but they might give you an idea or two on that you than take in a different direction.
And yes…I am a child of the 80’s and I love my Flock of Seagulls.
Moo.
Shane

And we’d certainly give it more if we could! I have a copy of it here and it’s a must have for any final cut pro editor. I’ve been using FCP since 2001 and I learned some new tricks from Shane.

July 30, 2007 at 9:36 amI’m sorry if I’m missing something here but is this DVD a Cow product? And if so how can you possibly have a review of it on your own website?

July 30, 2007 at 3:02 pmGood job, Shane!
I just got back from vacation this morning, so, its back to work…
It was my pleasure to review your DVD. I knew that it was going to be a good thorough job. I have lots of tutorial DVDs around here and most are so very boring but yours was informative and entertaining. I hope everyone here purchases one. They should!
As for the 80’s thing… I think is added to the DVD’s entertaining feature.
Again, Good job, Shane!
I think Tim Wilson should make this DVD a requirement for those looking into creating tutorial DVD for the COW!

We did not tell Wayne Carey what to think and as he is a true broadcast professional, we figured that his opinion would be his own and would have merit just because he is a pro.
We didn’t pick five guys to review it and then take the most favorable one. We asked Wayne. Period. His opinion would be the one we ran with and if he said it was two or three COWs, that is what we would have gone with.
Luckily, he liked it better than that. ;o)
Considering that 3D World Magazine out of England reviewed one of our titles in their Nov ’06 issue and gave it a perfect 10 — the only one we found in their whole 100+ page issue — we think that our cost-to-value curve exceeds anyone else in the market. Most agree.
Your mileage may vary,

I think Plunder hallow is missing something here. The Creative COW is a very large community of media professionals. What better market for a tutorial DVD and reviews of these DVDs whether its a COW DVD or someone else’s doesn’t matter.

January 21, 2011 at 2:49 amIs there an updated version of this DVD? It seems perfect for someone who is preparing to edit his first big project, but I wonder if, since it came out 4 years ago, there is another, more recent version or other tutorial I should look into? I want to use log and transfer, and I don’t think this tutorial has that.
