Watch everything that moves and try to figure out what exactly about its movement makes it look the way it looks.
Whenever an ad or movie or tv show youre watching has something interesting try to pick it apart and figure out how they did it.

Try stuff out even if it doesn’t work. Try every tutorial even if its not something you feel you want to do, often one small step in anotherwise usless tutorial (None of the tutorials here!!) will yeild a technique or a tool or a workflow idea you never would have figured out on your own.
Eventually even if you are a slow learner you will have figured it all out.
Also the more you learn the easier things become because you are building on a foundation of all your accumulated knowledge.

  • dont forget to lower it

    https://www.robotrumpus.com/reel_credits.html

the credits page lists 3 individuals and 4 production houses. so this could easily be the combined work of hundreds if not thousands of people. Alot of people worked on the last samurai and that eminem video.

  • Throw the drive away and buy a new one and copy your most recent backup to the new drive. (you did back up your data over the last 3 years right?)

Then make sure you unmount before shutdown from now on. And back up often.
HDDs that sit on a shelf as an archive RARELY die, HDDs that are used daily have about a 3 year life span.

You can also use mesh warp effect to do the same thing.
Just make a comp with one image cross fading to the other
    then apply mesh warp effect
You can adjust the mesh points at the beginning and end on the grid to closer line up to image elements you want to move around

I read a tutorial on it once, and they suggested you rough the grid points in at a low res and then once it flows with the images areas then turn it toi higher res and adjust the in between points. It saves you having to be precise with a large number of mesh points.

Its not as elegant as the old school spline/point by point style morphers
I don’t know why they’ve been abandoned, they could be a good plugin

in traditional animation if you wanted to cheat that and not actually show it painting on you could have the character turn and cover the place hes painting and just show his back with his arms moving then he turns back to his original position and reveals the painted painting.

A cheat like that would be used because it avoids a dificult, or time consuming or costly effect shot and still gets the point across.

make an animated reveal mask using vector paint that can be used as a wipe, then just animate the characters hand moving over top of it. It wont match up stroke by stoek unless you spend the time to animate him doing that.

also make a copy of layer that has your footage tuned to a black sillouette.

put the black sillouette below your footage layer

tint your footage layer so the higlights are the color of the lit ipod and trails.

add a soft edged mask to your footage layer and track its position to the ipod.

the mask should reveal a lit detail of your footage/talent in a soft edged circle where the mask is and a non lit looking silouette where the sillouette shows everywhere else. it should be a similar cheat to what they actually did with the lighting effect on the actual ipod ad.
