I’m having the hardest time removing a vertical scratch from some 35mm footage. It is during the entire shot (obviously happened during transfer to video), about 2-3 pixels wide. I’ve tried a simple wire removal which works for some areas but not for most. I have also tried masking the unaffected areas and pushing them together but it is about the same effect as the wire removal. Painting might be the only option but what would be the best plan of attack (as I dont do a lot of painting in AE) Any ideas would be appreciated.

You might also try our RE:Fill product ( https://www.revisionfx.com/rfil.htm ) which is designed to fix problems such as the one you describe. If the scratch is in the same place (as you say it is), then you can simply make a matte for where those pixels are and apply the “Area Fill” plugin of the RE:Fill set. RE:Fill is $99.00

There is a demo version in the “Downloads” section for RE:Fill. Make sure to read the short manual that is placed on your disk with the plugins upon installation.

Thanks for the help guys. I downloaded the Re:Fill plug and it worked really well. So I will be coughing up the 100 bills and using that.

    Cheers,

To remove a film scratch…clone it….do it in the layer panel with the appropriate brush size and the clone tool.
Set to single frame. Click at the start of your scratch…..move your mouse, (don’t drag) to the
end of the scratch…Shift click…..also make sure your clone options are properly set…source, aligned is checked, Normal mode RGBA…etc etc…
