That video you are using as an example is quite old – from back in the day of Adobe CS, instead of today’s AE CC.

Back then, when I worked with clients on visualization, it was a mix of importing CAD to 3D-Max, and from there add “people” + more in AE.

Today you have much more choice in form of adding Unity and Blender to the mix + a large depository of plug-ins and templates.

Although, you might want to investigate whether AR (or VR) if those tools are faster for you to use to what you want to achieve.

With regard to Bjarke Ingels himself, there is a more recent documentary which NetFlix has released for free here:

As a general note, the whole series of Abstract is worth a watch if you are a creative.

Yeah – I think that we should go back to tape-2-tape editing!
Or back in my day, I started out cutting and splicing 35mm film back together, normally after the 20-year old reel had broken apart on the projector 😱😀

One can only wonder what Kremlin would do with Avid, that is if they have any computers and internet connection left that can run the subscription…

But the lay-offs is apart of a retirement programme, started before the take-over.
Guessing that it has been quiet as some of those people would have walked away with a substantial amount of cash, so they did not have to work again:

No disrespect to Avid employees recently moved on, or still there.
Sometimes you’ll need to burn down the forest, in order for new plan-life to flourish.
And, IMHO currently Avid is in a mess that might best be sorted by new “sprouts”.
Pro-Tools appear to be their big no 1 earner, and the MediaComposer on a distant second space in their product line-up.
Their website is slow and cluttered, like what one would experience from a MLM offering.

It is difficult to find any excitement about a product that used to sell itself, when all the noise in the market is about every other product, than Avid.

Just an opinion.

Still hoping to put my recently purchased Avid MC keyboard to use, and pick up where I left off 25 years ago. But today, if I ask my clients about Avid, even within the bigger organisations, the producers looks at me with a blank face and ask “Avid, what is that?”.

With you on that one.

I HATE proxies, and always have.
Luckily the only “proxies” that I’ve had to deal with was Producer TimeCode log coming off a VHS tape or a DVD.

I’ve only ever purchased systems that could deliver a Master in the client’s chosen format, and with enough space to store all of the source footage needed for my part of the job.

On top of your timely comment on the difference in VFX applied to proxy and Full-ress master. One should not discount when a system decides to randomly use other frame-rates. Or forget where the Proxy originated from. Suddenly storage, whether purchase or hire, becomes cost-effective.

One big AMEN to that!!!
And no, I’m not religious – but my EIZO is my “altar”.

Currently working up to getting a 4K monitor, although I did afew months back I managed to sneak in a 65″ LG OLED instead.
There is a story waiting to be told about that going in to the living room, as I thought that the plasma it replaced was of a similar size (it was 42″!!! 😱).
At least my young kids appreciated it by saying: “Thank You dad, we have now got a cinema” 😂

But the right EIZO monitor, if grading, is that thing you never thought you needed, but once you have it, it will never leave you.

Hey Andres,

If you have tried everything else, there are a few more options that I can think of, neither is pretty, Sorry.

In no specific order:

– Export XML, import XML into new project and see if that allows you to playback without the Sequence freezing up?

(You could also try to import the XML into an earlier version of PPro, and see if that does the trick?)

– If there is space on the C: Drive, copy all of your media footage from D: to that drive. (If already there, copy all media to the D: drive)

– Unistall all of Adobe. Power down computer, leave it for 15 mins. Power-up. Use CCleaner or similar to remove any DLL’s etc hanging around. Re-install Adobe CC.

One last thing to investigate is whether you are using panels from 3rd parties, like Frame IO, Motion Array or similar?
Same goes with plug-ins, have any of those “lost” their licence information.

Hey Mary,

As Hector suggests, there are many “best 5” lists out there for curved monitors.

However, call me old fashioned, but:
Curved monitors are great for saving space and seeing everything on one screen.
I do not use them myself, but have considered it.

However, when finishing and doing the final pass on the Master, my preference would be a flat monitor. Only so I can have the same experience as the vast amount of people watching the program.
(That is subject to change as ultra-thin roll-out mobiles/tablets/TVs becomes mainstream)

This should not stop you from getting a curved monitor, but maybe for you to consider using a flat calibrated monitor for confidence and last check.

Just an opinion.

Hey Andres,

How annoying on this last day of the year (depending on your location), sorry to hear about your trouble.

Just as a side comment, it is always good to include your technical specs in posts related to performance.

My suggestions would be:

1) How full and how fast are your drives running?
There used to be a rule of thumb that your drives should be 25% empty when working with video, as this makes them run faster. If your drives are full, start by creating more space.
And, just in recent years, I’ve been given USB-2 Hard-Drives to edit HD multicam from. One project was FCPX, and one was PPro – both had the same “problem”.

2) Trash your preferences and renders, and see if that unfreezes the sytem.

3) Setup a new PPro project (v2), and import in the last sequence.
Yes, you may have to import all of your other footage + re-render all files.

4) Power down the computer, take a half-hour break, then turn it back on.
Sounds crazy, but often works.

Great, thank you for sharing.

Full disclosure:

My new £ 4,800 machine in a laptop back-pack might travel further straight out of the door without delay, but will get no-where near your beast in performance 😀

But I am very happy with the PC specs, and had money left over for a Davinci Mini panel + a few other “toys”.

Bottom-line is that we all can only “run as fast” as for what the clients wants to pay us for.

And whether that is expensive hardware, or slower with a “rotating hourglass”, or a “Beachball”, then I like to remember back to the time when there on Dos there was enough time for me to entertain the producer with a Shark race from top right corner to bottom left corner – just for fun, instead of a forced break that so many editors today takes for granted.

For anyone speccing their next computer, it is all about deliverables for your end-client, and how their budgets are worked out? Many broadcast masters are still delivered in HD, even when the source is 4K. And for those who need to deliver 4K, that is a question of brute power, or patience.

Depending on how much time you have, and whether you want to put it on a wall or pin-board.

Microsoft PowerPoint might do what you need it to do.

Otherwise:
FinalDraft 12 screen writing software, which includes Story planning and Beat Board tools.

And do not discount Mind Mapping software – there is plenty of those around.
