I would check two points:

1) Where is your media stored? (Can your MacBookAir see the folder?)

2) Has FCPX transcoded the files?

Admittedly I also still use Adobe PPro, but with all the crashes in the last project maked it impossible for me to continue with it + with the latest upgrade where they are removing more than they add, then sadly it is coming to an end.

My next project is on Davinci.

Keep in mind, unless you need specific functionality, you can start with the free version.

I am currently going through this book from Packt – from time to time, they have some great sales, so might be worth waiting for. But it also comes with links to files and other goodies if you need to learn it now:

Sounds right, but how does the client want to play the file?

Do they have the equipment installed?

If so, can you run a test to make sure that it works, and that the screens are perfectly alligned?

Admittedly I am not using FCPX much these days, and less so Coremelt.

But Mocha is always a trusted friend, and Coremelt saw that too.

Davinci will take you from initial cut, to mastering out for distribution.

Currently PPro is just not a stable platform + it feels in the latest release that the developers was busier removing features, than adding to them.
Might be that they for once concentrated on making it stable.

But, should add that Adobe programmers are constrained by a C-Suite and management that has lost sight of innovation.

My gut feeling is that Adobe are so low on creativity that they are letting themselves being lead by ChatGPT – which is only as good as what you put in…

Keep in mind that it is possible to migrate your edit later to another NLE, should you desire it.

Davinci, is a good place for you to start + it comes with a full toolset for creative grading, Fusion for vfx, and Fairlight for audio.

40TB of footage – what is the data throughput per second?
And, out of interest, what storage are you using for your back-ups (I expect that you keep them in separate locations?).

Depending on budget and where the project goes afterwards, the easiest may be to look at the BlackMagic solution:

As it sounds like you are starting over with a new system, you should consider getting a turnkey system solution with support.

Do watch out for flickering in your photos when animating within a canvas that large.

If there is any, you might need to use a deflicker filter on the down-conversion.
