  • Background Removal of a handheld shot?

Posted by Geoff Gross on September 1, 2024 at 9:46 pm

    Hi all –

Is anyone aware of any tools to remove backgrounds from a handheld shot? I’ve tried a few: veed, descript, and adobe, and all are removing too much in my case, but don’t have any parameter adjustments to play with to fine tune the removal.

    Thanks!

    Hey Geoff,

Have you tried CoreMelt SliceX (it uses Mocha for tracking).

You might want to have a look at the whole bundle, if there is more that you can use:

Thanks Mads! That sort of did the trick. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than anything else I tried. Since I’m messing up and distorting these clips, with a little more masking, I think it might be good enough for my purposes.

Appreciate the coremelt tip – (anvil seems like the right tool tho, not slice.)

    Hey Geoff,

Great that you found Anvil – had not thought of that.
Admittedly I am not using FCPX much these days, and less so Coremelt.

But Mocha is always a trusted friend, and Coremelt saw that too.

    Hi Geoff,
Sounds like you’ve got your results, but another great tool is from Motionvfx, called mRotoAI
Check it out for next time

I use it in Motion5, and it works REALLY well

Thanks Jonathan – I’m not too good in motion, but perhaps this will be the impetus to learn it next time, haha.

    I’ll check out mRoto!
