[Jerry Hofmann] “Change the clips in Motion… i.e. open the motion project, make changes, then it should be updated in FCP”

Thanks Jerry…but how do I EASILY replace the FCP footage in Motion? I work in multiclip with 6-10 cameras, with each take generally at least an hour. In this instance I need 20 frames of the take. The suggestion on the Motion forum was to render (export?) from FCP and replace the footage in Motion. Are we discussing the same solutions?

Can you cut to an angle when you’re simply parked at a point? If you can (or I guess even if you can’t), perhaps (and I hate to say this…) trashing your prefs might fix the problem. I generally only do multicam editing on FCP, and haven’t had this problem.

    About the other issues however…

Thanks for the response, and to clarify:
[klthomas] “The quickest way I’ve found is to render out a new clip of the shot on the FC timeline”
Instead of render, do you mean export it out from FCP. After that I then reimport it
    into Motion?

If I get what you’re saying, I did try that and couldn’t get it to work, but it might have been am issue with how I set up this particular Motion project from FCP. If this is the case, I’ll try and see what happens with both a Motion project created outside FCP, and also with a new one created using the FCP integration.

  • I’m not in front of a system, but doesn’t option or command do the trick?

  • [Martin Baker] “You have to hold down the Command key to take the original cuts across from sequence to sequence”

Thanks for clarifying – it’s what I meant, but was too windozed out to say correctly – even though I use it all the time (g). Also thanks for the nice tip on changing F9&10 to use sequence contents.

  • With a sequence loaded in the Viewer, you can also hold CTL key while doing an insert edit and your original sequence cuts will be in the new sequence. NOTE: I have better luck with this using the mouse rather than the keyboard.

I could not see or access the control points. This happened with every mask I created, and included reboots. I deleted the prefserence file and everything returned to normal.
    Thanks,

[Walter Biscardi] “As for what you’re looking for, we get RT CC, Slo Mo, multiple graphics layers, plus a lot more here no problem running a Dual 2.0 with a Fibre Channel Array.”

To expand (belabor?) my response below, this is pretty much why I’m curious about Axio’s real-time, since if Konda offers this in SD, then where’s the Axio advantage?

That said, although the Kona 2 works well for us in HD, the real-time is more limited in HD.

[gary adcock] “Apple shuns all 3rd party vendors and/ or developers that try to offer hardware acceleration for FCP.”

Thanks Gary. Which raises the question – wasn’t the Cinewave card accelerated? Since I’m relatively new to FCP, and am returning back to the Mac world I where I started, I defer to you (and everyone’s knowledge) here. Are you saying that Aja and/or other hardware developers could offer hardware alternatives, but don’t?

I don’t doubt that you’re right, but I’m sorry, I just don’t understand that. Unless Apple was developing their own hardware acceleration down the road…
