Just a quick question regarding the clips you posted, and maybe a suggestion. Are you encoding a 4×3 in a 16×9 aspect ratio sequence? If that is the case you should really cut the 4×3 into a 4×3 aspect ratio sequence and encode that file without the pillar bars. DVD is SD anyway so you might save yourself encoding time and encoded bits.
Also encoders do not like to encode the hard edges of the video. It sounds like, form how you explained the artifacts appearing on cuts, that your encoder is not catching the scene change as an I frame. You should look at your encoder settings to see if you are running CBR, 1pass VBR, or 2 pass VBR. Using maximun render quality, in and of itself should not be causing this, my guess it is in conjunction with something else.
Also what data rate are you using for the 60min program?

It’s really hard to tell exactly what is going on with the encoded file if we do not know what your encoding settings are. Please share your settings from the PrPro export panel and maybe someone here can help you out.

Are you ecoding the video through AME? And, do you mean 1280 x720?
Please share your encoding settings and that might shed some light on what is going on.

I believe that YouTube upload requirements are 720p . I could be wrong but we always compress for 720p for you tube delivery no matter what the HD source

Hi Larry, Just saw your post on twitter. For the Kona card you will have to install the AJA MAC plug in for PrPro and as far as the UStudio goes. The option should be there. As a test you can set a sequence to one of the BMD settings, import your video and see if it recognizes the output card. Which UltraStudio are you using? SDI?
I have an IOXT and a US3D that I use here with no problems

Not sure if I understand the question, but it is possible to have multiple DL clips from Multiple AE comps in one PrPro timeline. It’s just very slow

A couple of quick questions to help solve the issue? First, what is your final deliverable? Second, What is your video source going to be? I am having difficulty understanding what you would need a ProRes 4444 file for, when in most applications ProRes 422 (HQ) would be more than adequate. Also ProRes is not an ideal codec to work within Adobe Premiere anyways when you can work with it natively in FCP7 and export the file in it’s native codec without having to re-encode.
Your monitor has a 10 bit wide gamut panel but still most deliverables will be in the REC709 colorspace and 444 monitoring requires a 3Gbps SDI stream (or dual link) which your signal path does not allow for with the SDI to DVI-D to HDMI connection. Nor will you be able to see any field reversal issues with that signal path or on the dreamcolor.
I agree that banding is present in the ramp, and to me it looks the same in FCP7 and PrPro, however in any real world environment where you are creating content for the Web, Cable or Broadcast. That amount banding is aceptable and anything more is overkill.

The file looks no different playing out of FCP7, Premiere Pro, or After effects. Not really sure how to help since I cannot reproduce different results from any NLE or I/O unit I have at my disposal.
I am willing to bet the Farm though, that your video stream is indeed 10bit. What monitor are you viewing the output of the decklink?

In what app is this file created and are you sure it is a 10bit. I played it out from AE via aja IOxt to a true 10bit panel (FSI CM-170) and the file does indeed have banding. I purposely used a different app and output than you to see if it was your workflow or the file itself. However I also see banding out of FCP7 via the IOxt and the BMD ultraStudio 3D. The ramp from my signal generator shows a perfectly smooth grade compared to the test file.
So now you know that it is not Premiere Pro or your BMD unit. Strangely enough the file does not play out of AJA tv, it will open the file and the monitor will sync to the 1080i 25 but not display on the monitor at all, where as other ProRes 444 10 bit files play just fine.

In the AE comp is the resolution set to full, 1/2, 1/4 or auto. PrPro will use the resolution from AE in the DL clips. Before your final export make sure you change AE comp resolution to Full and your PrPro res fractional res is set to full.
You could also render out a small portion of the DL clip to animation codec or Prores4444 and then import that into the PrPro timeline to see if looks the same.
