April 2, 2007 at 8:33 am in reply to: Problems with transition dissolves applied to nested clips ever since the last two FCP updatesDon’t want to get off topic, but how in the world did you get Boris FX to work? I installed Boris FX 8 to FCP 5.1.2 and have NEVER been able to get the transitions working. Not even with the workaround Boris gives which essentially tells FCP you’re applying a filter when in reality you’re doing a transition. That is you’re going into the Boris transitions through the “back door”. Absolutely no luck here. It’s a shame because that would be an excellent addition to FCP if it worked as seemlessly as it does with M100. Oh well…

Thanks a million, Jeremy. I’ll look for that plug-in. I appreciate your time. Cheers

Yes, Jeremy, I’m working in 10 bit uncompressed. What are you driving at?
I’ve tried moving the matte around too to set it on different lines, but it still pulsates… I’m using the same graphic design throughout my current job. Luckily most of them are working out ok. Actually it’s an idea that I got precisely through Walter Biscardi’s Part 3 tutorial on travel mattes.
Thanks all. -
Thanks all. Chris, that’s just it. Strangely enough it’s very random. I hold my breath every time, and so far the odds are with me, with the exception of the sequence that made me post in the first place. Let’s hope FCP gets that straightened out in future releases. It’s a pain, especially since I don’t have BCC 🙁 Thanks for at least shedding some light on the why’s.

Follow this link for an excellent free Ripple training tutorial to do just what you ask.

I’ve done this several times and it’s always worked fine for me, so I don’t know where your particular problem lies. I export using CMX 3600 format (the Sony 5000 choice gives you new reel names 001,002 etc) whereas the CMX 3600 tranfers the orginal reel names. When I import into FCP, I get a new sequence with offline media as well as a new bin with all the clips used in the sequence. That’s just to tell you it “should” work… The M100 I export from is version 8.2.3, though I don’t see how that would make a difference. An EDL is an EDL…
Hope you find the bug!Dual 2.7 GHz G5, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9650, Xserve RAID, AJA IO, 2 20″ Cinema Display, FCP 5.1.2, OS X10.4.8

How is the FCP signal getting to the Vectorscope? The reason I ask is that not long ago I thought I had your same problem, but I was monitoring the SDI signal though a DigiBeta deck and the internal TBC levels were not in the detent position, thus my levels were off. Tracing the signal flow made it dawn on me to check those TBC settings and putting them back in their default position was all it took to see that the FCP settings were on the mark.
Just my 2 cents. However if you give more info on your set-up you’ll have a better chance at cracking your particular problem.Dual 2.7 GHz G5, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9650, Xserve RAID, AJA IO, 2 20″ Cinema Display, FCP 5.1.2, OS X10.4.8

I fall into the “no problems” category”. I work exclusively in 10 bit SDI in and out and haven’t had any problems to date. I am still with version 5.1.2 since it works fine.

Thanks Rafael. Don’t know how I missed that. Sometimes I guess you can look too hard!
