Problems with transition dissolves applied to nested clips ever since the last two FCP updates
Posted by Pdames on April 1, 2007 at 11:06 amProblems with transition dissolves applied to nested clips ever since the last two FCP updates. Prior to the last two updates I never had problems working with nested clips but now they totally suck to work with. Am I the only one with this problem or have any of you guys noticed a difference working with nested clips.

April 1, 2007 at 5:23 pmWell for starters in some cases it won’t even allow me to apply the filter. Then I tried to make the sequence clips independent which worked for some of the nested clips but not all.
lots of my third party filters used to work great now some of them don’t even work and rendering takes longer then it ever has. Any idea’s Tom. -

April 1, 2007 at 5:36 pmThat may be a problem with the filter. What’s the filter? What’s the third party filter? Some of them have been broken in OS and QT updates. Can’t speak to rendering, that depends on your computer. I haven’t noticed any slow down myself.

April 1, 2007 at 5:43 pmTo follow up: are you talking about filters or transitions? Are you trying to apply transitions between nested sequences? The material has to be rippled back from the edit point to allow a transition to be added. The application has always behaved like this.

April 1, 2007 at 9:35 pmI don’t know if this is your problem, but I’m also having some issues with transitions in nested items that I don’t remember having had before. In my case, when I have transitions inside the nested sequence, and then I do something else to it, like apply a widescreen filter to the whole sequence (which is, in my case, the whole point of nesting it), I get banding in the transitions, even after rendering. I’m talking about normal cross-dissolves, nothing strange.

April 1, 2007 at 9:43 pmCould you put up a screen shot of what you’re seeing? I’m assuming you rendered the nested sequence content and then rendered the filtered sequence and are looking at the output on a video monitor.

No, I don’t think so. Are you supposed to do that? I’ve always assumed -wrongly, it seems- that I didn’t need to render both.

April 1, 2007 at 10:00 pmFCP has in the past had difficulty it seems keeping track of render files in nest. This goes way back. I’ve always made it a point of rendering nests separately, especially for output.

April 1, 2007 at 11:19 pmThanks for the input Tom. I was reffering to transitions and the third party filter is the majority of the Boris fx.

April 1, 2007 at 11:59 pmAre you seeing the same problem William is seeing? Can you post a screen shot? I making the same assumptions as with him.
BorisFX went south on one of the OS or QT upgrades. Don’t know if it’s been fixed. You might want to check their web site.
