September 21, 2007 at 6:32 am in reply to: preferences disappear every time I close and re-open FCPThanks so much to you all. Since I’m on the “other side of the pond” I found all your answers this morning. What a refreshing start to the day to find the solidarity of other grazers. I’ll try all suggestions and post back my results. Thanks again! Long live the Cow!

I took 2 seminars in February in Ireland. Larry knows his stuff, is well prepared and is entertaining to boot. I suggest going prepared with questions. He is a great resource and it’s good to squeeze his brain and experience.

I second Bill’s suggestion, having had that “get me” once before. Make sure that the leader box is unchecked in the edit to tape window. Actually there are 2 boxes – one for head and one for tail. Even if you have selected “in to out”, if that black leader box is checked FCP will lay the black before the section of your sequence.

Hey Danny, Though not familiar with the term TVC… I have found the video scopes in FCP to be pretty much on the mark. The color correction screen arrangement option will bring them up front. If you have bars at the top of your show and are accustomed to reading the scopes that at least gives you a good starting point to check both the scopes and your monitor setup. In any case I’ve learned that you should always grade to the external monitor and not to your computer monitor.
Hope this helpsDual 2.7 GHz G5, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9650, Xserve RAID, AJA IO, 2 20″ Cinema Display, FCP 5.1.2, OS X10.4.8

I’m doing just what you’re attempting and it’s working fine for me. Instead of dragging the icon, try exporting the file in the same format as your FCP project and then import that file (woks with Alpha channel too). That’s been my workflow and titles look great. I prefer doing it this way so that I don’t need to render the title in FCP each time I move or trip the title clip.
Hope this helps.Dual 2.7 GHz G5, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9650, Xserve RAID, AJA IO, 2 20″ Cinema Display, FCP 5.1.2, OS X10.4.8

You’re probably right about who needed the R&R! Thanks again!

Wanna hear somthing weird, Jeremy? Opened FCP monday morning and that same clip that was giving me problems is now fine. I changed absolutely nothing. I hate these non rational problems! I guess FCP needed some R&R…
