Thanks everybody. Over the years I’ve had the same philosophy as Jerry and have never left drives on at night (if I wasn’t working!) I was just concerned if there were particularities regarding the XserveRAID. I’ll continue to power down as always. Luckily I was able to power down without a glitch this last week.

Mike,I have used M100i day in and day out for the past 8 years and loved it. Unfortunately the company I work for was forced to abandon it slowly due to M100’s ridiculous upgrade cost. I am deep into learning FCP 5 and was curious as to what you mean by
[Mike L] “Although M100 files are more accessible in Version 5,”
What has been your experience in accessing M100 program files in FCP? My entire project archive is in M100 format and I would love to have the ability to access those programs without necessarily saving each program in an EDL format.

OK Thanks. In fact I was in list mode. I find that when in any size poster mode it’s hard to rubber band if you need to start on the far left size of the bin. There doesn’t seem to be enough “room” around the clip to get the pointer there. No big deal, just part of those little things that would make things a little easier.
Thanks for your time.

Our company was faced with the same decision. After years with M100 we did your same reasoning and have replaced 2 Media 100’s with FCP. I was sorry to see it go since we have been really happy with it but as you said, the investment was just too big compared to the FCP route.
That’s just to let you know there are lots of us in the same M100 boat. Good luck with your decision! -
Hi Bob,
That’s just what I am going to do. Besides, I need the versatility of the inputs the I/O offers.
I’m glad to be a part of generating buzz and enthusiasm for FCP and AJA in Europe.
Ciao!

I posted the following a few days ago. The “Executive Producer” is essentially the original version of the same software that has evolved over the years.
We have been logging tapes sucessfully for years with Imagine Products “WinTep” now “Tep X”. Check out their site. They do both Mac and Windows versions though we use the windows version to free up the Mac for editing. They also have more heavy duty database software to be able to perform searches and set up an archive but I am in Italy and they are in Indiana so for us the risk was too great with respect to investment required. We are “getting by” with a homemade Access database but are always shopping for something better and more professional. The logging module exports logs compatible with all the major edit systems.
Good luck!Kim

I read your post with interest and applaude you on your test. I work for a company that currently has 4 M100 edit suites. Just yesterday we placed our order for 2 FCP Studio’s with the lastest G5 and the AJA I/O.(We’ll change the remaining 2 suites shortly) I researched just the exact problem you’re having since frame accuracy is of paramount importance to us in laying off to Digi Beta. I was assured by the AJA tech team that frame accuracy was not an issue. Could you take the time and trouble to update this forum as to how everything works out for you? Thanks a million.
