In CS6, to set a poster frame for the icon, drag the playhead or shuttle to the desired frame, and then press the Shift+P (Windows) or Command+P (Mac OS) keys. To clear the poster frame, press the Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows) or Option+P (Mac OS) keys.

A good rule of thumb is to use Mark Clip. The only time I need to go back one frame is when I set an Out point only.

Some components are not added to the Windows version of QuickTime. Is the footage HDV or XDCAM?

Odd. Premiere Pro should be able to handle large image sequences. I’ll try to reproduce the problem.

That’s not true, the same behavior exists in other NLEs, like the Avid Media Composer. At least it did when I operated that system. In Media Composer, you could mark out the way you want by pressing the Command key when dragging the playhead to the edit point.
