Auto Select the track you want to match frame. In FCP 5, you can also select the clip w/o worrying about auto select.

If it’s the thumbnail in the clip you’re talking about, you can turn them off in Seq. Settings (CMD + Zero). Is that what you mean?

I just did a test. Import with Alpha is working just fine. So something is probably wrong with your installation of FCP. Good Luck.

Limit Capture Now’s space allocation to 30 minutes or less in the Scratch Disk Prefs. That should fix it.

You can use the match hue tool to help you. I find the CC tools in FCP to be pretty good. But since you are in a huge hurry and are frustrated with FCP’s CC tools because you don’t have time to learn them, then by all means bring your project into Avid. You’ll need Automatic Duck to import your timeline with any accuracy. Good luck.

You fire your DP that did not shoot the scene with a chip chart, or, at the very least, a white card. Then, you eyeball it. That’s all you can do.

No, you need a CRT to do color correction with any accuracy. You can use a Black Magic HD Link hooked up to it to do the job though, from what I understand.
As a stock monitor, no, you cannot trust it though.

Yes, this is common. It is because most people don’t know that in a standard DV Firewire Config you have to have your speakers connected out of the deck or camcorder. Your video monitor should also be connected this way at all times.
I like to connect my mac audio outputs and deck’s outputs to a mixer so I can hear audio whether it is coming out of the deck or the mac. This is ideal because you can hear audio in any scenario and in any application. A simple Y-split adapter also does the trick.
Most people don’t work this way, but they should. Check out proper system config in the manual–you might be surprised that your system is not set up according to spec. I would wager that most people are set up wrong for working with proper monitoring for audio and video.
