FCP 45HD dual 2.7. AJA Betacam sources w TC. Just recently there is a delay from when I hit Capture Now to when the capture actually starts.

I haven’t installed anything or changed anything I think. Any ideas why the delay?

Try trashing your FCP preferences first. It certainly won’t hurt anything and may very well put things back to normal, espcially since you say you haven’t changed anything. You can also use the free program “Final Cut Pro Rescue” to do the job for you. Google it and you’ll find it.

We are having the same problem. last week I could hit the Capture Now button & within a second it would go into record, this week it takes about 8 seconds.
We are on FCP 4.5 OSX 10.3.9 – G5’s Dual 2.5’s with 4gigs of ram, Apple’s 3.5T XServe Raids AJA LD.
I have the Raid split into two Icons on the desktop, one half hasn’t been used yet & the other is at 651gigs left. On our end nothing has been loaded or changed either.
I did a test today by deleting a bunch of old render files & some old projects. That seemed to fix it for a while, untill I started to bring another large project in & it went back to taking a long time to start recording.
Try to do a log & capture I bet it will start right away. Question was someone else editing on it & changed any settings?

I’ve had that problem when my drives are full and such (I know that you have said you have adequate *fast* storage). But the delay is most likely coming from the “allocating disk space” phase of the capture now. Make sure that in the energy saver panel you have “put disks to sleep” disabled. There is also an update that will change something with the way the xraid deals with flushing its cache that might affect the problem.

As a test, see if it IS your storage and try capturing low data rate footage to the internal drive or some other disk. If you still the get delay, then I would blame your aja unit and start going down that path with the aja forum….

    dunno if that helps

Limit Capture Now’s space allocation to 30 minutes or less in the Scratch Disk Prefs. That should fix it.
