Can you see any images in your video monitor? Do you have your View menu set to >All Frames?

You should not be in dynamic, but high. Dynamic is merely for previewing your unrendered effects. After doing so, switch to High quality. You should also render with the dark green FULL bars checked in your Sequence>Render Menus.
You say you don’t “have a TV”. Many of your problems would be detected before you burned your DVD if you did have one – even a cheap one. You can add flicker filters or deinterlace filters to solve most problems. But you are currently “flying blind”. You really, really, need to monitor your work as you work on a video monitor.
I suggest you go down to Costco or whatever and get yourself something to use for monitoring your images. Then when your ship comes in, get yourself a real production video monitor – as a pro video editor should have.
There really is no good excuse for not monitoring correctly in FCP.

There is no Alpha Border for your effect so you’ll have to fake it. Just apply the same matte to a color matte and then adjust the controls (try CHOKE) to adjust the border outward.

Playback Quality set to Dynamic is your problem. Set it to FULL and make sure that you render the file even if it a RT Preview. Render with the dark green render bar checked in Sequence>Render.
I agree that it is confusing if you don’t know the array of different settings that you can have. You may want to read up on it. There’s a good article on kenstone.net about it.

Sounds like you need to reformat the drive. Everyone needs to erase the drive between major projects, unfortunately, not many do. And then problems like this happen.

Shine works best in AE. MOST of it works in FCP, but the 3D stuff is only available in AE. So if you need to put some rays behind a title or an image, it will work in FCP.
Sure is nice to have a separate compositing app for some stuff. I believe you can use the same plug in in both applications.
