I need to gain remote control of my Beta Deck through Final Cut Pro. What do I need to do this? Where can I get such items? My technical expertise are lacking. Help!!!

p.s. how did I do for my first post on CreativeCow?

I believe most people are using the USA-28X usb to serial adapter from Keyspan. This plus a mini-din 8 cable to 9 pin, and the software drivers from keyspan, should do the trick.

You’ll likely need to create a new device control preset in your prefs, though.

    Good frist post.

Here is the workflow on how to capture the beta footage routed thru a DV camera or deck:

Are you just starting up with FCP and have a lot of BetaSP footage and still shoot BetaSP?

I purchased the BlackMagic DeckLink SP card and it has worked great for me. Using this I am able to capture 8bit Uncmopressed.
Unless I’m missing something, if you shoot in BetaSP, I think you’ll want to be capturing it that way and editing in 8bit Uncompressed.
Text graphics and moving JPEGs are so much clearer when editing on an 8bit Uncompressed timeline.

I realize it’s more money, but if you’re use to BetaSP quality, I think you’ll find editing on the DV codec to be a let down.

For what it’s worth. (it may not even be 2 cents)

I control my 1800 through the RS422 cable from my Kona LH, and previously through the same cable on my Decklink SP. Also remember to set the far left hand button to remote.

    Have a wonderful day.
