Video Processing Pref>Best Quality?Make sure this piece is fully rendered at Full Quality, with all the RT PopUP menu settings in the correct position and view this on a good quality pro video monitor and tell us if you are still having trouble.

Something tells me it’s your SAN software. I’ve got some experience with Xsan and never had trouble with it for what I wanted it to do. And this is on a 10 seater. That being said, I’m sure that your software should work. Spec is looking just fine.
I don’t have experience with Fibershare X. I’m sure it’s good stuff. I’d contact Charismac tech support if I were you. This is pretty new software so not many FCP’ers may know it off the bat.

Monitor your footage in Full Frame/High Quality/Safe RT. Evaluate the image you see in the NTSC video monitor and NOT the FCP Canvas.
FCP is more than an app, it’s a system. Set up both speakers and video monitor out of your deck/cam and monitor from that for the least amount of trouble in judging image and sound quality as you work.

Yes, you’ll certainly need a TV or broadcast monitor if you can afford one.

As a rule of thumb, you generally should not capture clips of any great length however many people never heard that they should not capture HUGE clips and do so anyway.
Many are successful, some are not. It all depends on how powerful your system is, how well your drives are working and what kind of drives you are using. Faster systems with faster drives have fewer problems.
If I were you, I’d similarly capture large chunks. I’d test first for any synch problems. Barring those, I’d say go for it.

As a rule of thumb, try to avoid using capture now altogether except in emergencies when you need to grab the first few seconds of the tape.
Most pros prefer to log the clip and then capture it. That way, FCP knows exactly where the clip should stop recording – and it does so automatically.
As to the cause of your problem, it likely has to do with a TimeCode break in your footage. Check your preferences and see if they are set to record over TimeCode breaks.

You also need to set up a video monitor to your deck or cam as you work to check the TRUE quality of your rendered graphics. The Canvas is very misleading.
This is a very common problem for people that don’t work with FCP properly setup with a video monitor and speakers being fed from the dv deck or camcorder. Set it up properly and you’ll have much fewer confusions.

All i can think of is pcmcia card slot adapter or s-vi”No adabis, you should not hook up your video monitor that way. You need your DV Deck in the chain to monitor video (and audio) correctly. So your deck/camcorder must be powered up the entire time you are working with FCP (it acts as a transcoding box for monitoring as well). You merely connect the S-Video cable from the video output of the deck/cam to the video monitor. Powered speakers should be set to the deck/cams audio outs and NOT the Mac.
This is a very common misunderstanding and has been since version 1.0.
