Broadcast Monitor with FCP…
Hi folks,
I’d like to get a humble ext. monitor for reviewing and wondered…
Does anyone know if/how I can connect a broadcast monitor to a powerbook already with a 23in display out the DVI?
All i can think of is pcmcia card slot adapter or s-video…I’ve never really tried this way as I would usually connect it to a video deck but am temporarily without..
Am I missing a hardware device or external graphics card for this?
..Is this a really easy (as in dumb) question??Pat on the back for any hints.

Do you want to monitor HD or SD?
That will make a difference in your choices.

Hi David,
What with cost being an obvious issue, but mainly working mostly in SD (for now), i’d have to say SD.
Unless someone tells me i can get an HD monitor for less than 500 squid!!It’s mainly monitoring colour & interlaced screen (for checking DVD’s etc…, would i be better off just attaching a small telly? And can FCP support me having a secong display as well as an external monitor?

All i can think of is pcmcia card slot adapter or s-vi”No adabis, you should not hook up your video monitor that way. You need your DV Deck in the chain to monitor video (and audio) correctly. So your deck/camcorder must be powered up the entire time you are working with FCP (it acts as a transcoding box for monitoring as well). You merely connect the S-Video cable from the video output of the deck/cam to the video monitor. Powered speakers should be set to the deck/cams audio outs and NOT the Mac.
This is a very common misunderstanding and has been since version 1.0.
