What did you end up doing?

Best to archive the highest quality file/version possible. For many, that would not be H.264 or 5, but ProRes…

I know this is old, but the audio moving the wrong way is super annoying.
Anyone found a way to change this nudge setting? Or a hot key combo?

  • Maybe you are having “Immaturity Problems”? Just kidding…
Most of my problems I have not figured out yet are showing up after I bring in the xml.
My current problem is the audio recorder tracks are empty–kinda the whole point of using PE. I have looked at where the tracks start from timecode in the stand alone PE and that gets me close, but it’s still a big problem.

You could try downgrading to prior version–they did a major over-haul to create v4. I think I might do the same thing here.

Please write if you figure it out!

  • Yep, I think you know now that you probably should have waited for the audio first, but if you right click on your audio track in PE, there is an option to allow it to split the track, but now that I’m writing this I’m not sure if that will split your clips. It might just create new tracks to move whole clips where they work better.

You might be able to sync raw video, export new video files paired with good audio and then online the new clips through media management.

Maybe you can use a demo to just see if any of this will work. Although, v4 seems to be even more buggy than v3 at the moment.

By the time you hassle with all of this it might be quicker to just re-assemble after sync. At least you’ve already made all of your decisions, so it should be a lot quicker than starting over.

I think you can disable its ability to create new tracks can’t you?
I’ve had so many tickets with them about v4 it’s ridiculous, but I think they are working on the bugs and have been responsive.

  • Maybe everyone checked this that is having the problem, but was having problems with the mute button, then realized I hadn’t put the track back on “read” mode. It was still on “latch”.

So that explained why it was behaving so, and fixed the problem.

    Same problem here–super annoying.

    I’m not using multi-cam either.

Sometimes closing and re-opening the program mon. panel has worked.

  • I’d guess if it were to work, it would re-arrange all your video clips since your audio clips will probably span so many of the video clips. That might not be worthwhile…

If you want to do this in PE4, I’ve found that you now must right click each track and make sure you enable it to change clip order. I suppose this might be worth the time assuming you have a lot that you cut out in the edit.

Please respond and share if you had success–I’m curious.

Anyone find any new ideas about this since it’s been several years?
I really miss being able to just have all the peaks marked like in FCP7!

I wondered if a plugin has been created to do this?

    Thanks for responding Jo.
That didn’t directly solve my problem, but after flipping that on, it helped me notice that I had an In and Out point without realizing it. I think that’s what my problem was.

Once I cleared that from the sequence it seems to be working as expected now.
