thx for responses guy, any tips on what u use the quick buttons for? I’m configuring now (have an intuos3 9×12) and I’ll eventually have a set of my own.

also have a bella keyboard, but the jog shuttle on it kinda SUX, because it lags…

maybe it’s cos i’m working in 10 bit 444 HD…at home on an SD premier pro I have a contour shuttle pro and it’s great… again, maybe it’s because of the higher resolution area that I work in that is causing the lag in FCP…

  • thx Paul, looks like i have to give paint another go – under AE this time…

if only it didnt take you out of AE…but ATM looks like it’s the forerunner – just need to test and convince others to purchase…

  • Paul, do u know if you can neg spot like in flame/smoke?

select frame to spot, select frame that will be the bottom/revealed layer and then paint to reveal the spot?

from my quick testing in paint (stand alone and plugin) I wasn’t sure about how to do this…

I have placed a similar thread in AE now to see if this might be the way to go… or if there is another option…

having to purchase AE and the silhouette looks to be a big purchase, so I want to see if there are any other options…

PLUS the fact u have to go into another window to do the neg spot is a bit of a pain … EG play back in RT, find frame to spot, go into “paint window”, paint out, go back to RT app (eg AE or FC) play back and so on…. not as elegant as I would like….

SIDE NOTE: i don’t know anything about programming, but is it hard to make a “simple” FCP plugin to do what I ask? how much would it cost for someone to make it for me hehe…

  • I have Paul, that is my main dillema it will only work as 8bit…

I am actually considering the purchase of Aftereffects as it is meant to support multibridge extreme for real tinme playback. that way I can export a reference QT, view in RT and then paint in AE. Any ideas?

Is there a plugin for AE that will work in 10+bits and allow you to neg spot by revealing (IE erase the negspot and select what frame it should reveal under it)

February 6, 2006 at 1:04 am in reply to: 10 or 8bit Software Codec BMD-HD on WindowsXP?

slightly off topic, but as with the question a few steps above, does this affect FCP – using their internal effects (Iknow AE plugins in FCP all do 8bit only, but how about things like speed ramps/CC and dissolves in FCP…

can someone suggest a way to test?

    thx

  • o it is easy to key frame, don’t get me wrong, but when you’re doing feature film after feature film, the time adds up unfortunately…

    thx for your response though

  • thank you for your response, I actually found this just after the post… it’s a great lil plugin, but I wish you were able to work on it frame by frame (ie it’ paints only to the frame you are on) instead of being persistant. atm I am testng the demo and it requires either razoring the frame or using keyframes…

Other issue, is that you can’t jsut move the clone points, you have to select the + to move them…

the other issue I have is whether it is 10bit or not….

I really can’t tell, but it actually matters because we are working o 444 10bit HD and it needs to remain so throughout the entire process….

    any ideas?

I have emailed the developer but ya any thoughts would be great.

Side note, been trialing silhouette paint and it’s like GREAT, only issue is it only works in 8bit (due to FCP AE plugin limit) and there is a huge change in the blacks because of this. 🙁

  • thx for the response, I know I can fix it in notepad, but unfortunately there are heaps of clips all over the place and i would prefer not to do it this way…

    just a little BG…

I am on FCP5.04 and the file made for me is from premier 6.5… having heaps of issues.. Have just found out i can change the reels via FCP so that’s all good now…..

anyone had experience with importing premier 6.5 into FCP?

  • Thx, i didn’t strip the tape, perhaps that was the prob.

deck control was fine in that i could play stop and digitise from it with deck control…

    thx guys…

thx Graeme, I didn’t notice a diff, but will use uncompressed from now on….

would actually prefer to use TIF but for some reason FCP5 won’t take Tiffs rendered out of shake for some reason
