  • Hi Andy! A quick fix for your issue is to create a timeline above the one you’re working on, and copy and paste your clip to the timeline above. Make sure it’s lined up time wise with the part you want to edit. Got to pan/crop tool, and check the box “Mask” on the bottom. Make sure to select the eyes, and then apply the color corrector effect. You can also use “Color corrector secondary” if you want to change the hue.

So essentially what you’re doing is masking the eyes on the top clip, then applying the effect. I hope this helps!

Hey John, that’s frustrating, especially since the reset seemed to work at first. If copy and paste is breaking again, it might be something in the background like a clipboard issue, a plugin conflict, or even a Vegas bug that came back after the update.

It’s not happening for everyone, so it could be system-specific. Try checking if it only breaks after switching windows, dragging media around, or working in certain projects.

As a quick workaround, you can Ctrl+drag clips to duplicate them, or save your titles as presets in the Media Generator so you don’t have to rebuild them from scratch.

Hope you find what’s causing it. Definitely let us know if you pin it down.

  • Hey again!
Glad to see you’re diving further into this. Since you’re already using the 1920×1080 30p project preset (which is perfect, by the way), you’re definitely on the right track. Having to manually go into Pan/Crop and select the 16:9 preset for every single piece of media can get tedious fast.

One thing that’s helped me is using “Match Output Aspect” inside the Pan/Crop window. Once you apply that to a clip, you can save it as a preset, and then just reuse it instead of doing it from scratch every time. If you have a bunch of clips, just apply it to one, then Copy that clip and use “Paste Event Attributes” to quickly copy it to the others.

For vertical phone footage or tall photos, I sometimes do the blurred background trick like I explained on the other thread.

So yeah, sticking with your current project settings is perfect, and using those little tricks can really streamline things when dealing with a bunch of mixed media.
    Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, I haven’t found a solution better than converting them beforehand. It’s a pain, but Vegas unfortunately has it’s limits with video encoders.

    Hope I’ve been helpful.

That is a completely valid question. This looks perfect! Just make sure to click “no” to matching the project settings to the clips you import. That would backtrack what you did with the project settings.

For a 7-minute wedding rehearsal montage with a mix of HEICs, JPGs, MOVs, and MP4s, I recommend setting your project manually before importing anything. I usually go with 1920×1080 resolution at 30fps since it’s a solid choice for mixed media and displays well on most screens. When that “match media settings” prompt pops up, I just hit “No” and stick to my own settings to keep everything consistent. For vertical clips or photos, I either crop them to fill the 16:9 frame or use a blurred duplicate in the background to make it look more polished. If I’m using Vegas Pro, I also make sure to check the box that adjusts media to match project settings. And for HEICs or iPhone .MOV files that act up, converting them to JPG or MP4 ahead of time saves a lot of headache. Adding a little zoom to still images (like a Ken Burns effect) and keeping transitions consistent really helps everything feel cohesive.

  • Is the border added as an image in it’s own track? If so, you need to go to Crop/Pan tool and uncheck “maintain aspect ratio”. That will enable so you can shape the border on top of just making it smaller. Then you can just ajust every side if the rectangle seperatly until it fits the photo. I hope this helps.

First I would switch compatibility issues.

Right click on the vegas shortcut. Go to properties then compatibility.

Make sure to change that to Windows 10.

If that doesn’t work, you could try resetting the settings on Vegas. You will lose all other settings if hou do so.

To do that, hold Ctrl+Shift and double click the vegas shortcut.

You need to “delete all cached app data”.

After you launch vegas, you need to set your preferences again, and make sure marker autosave is on.

    Hello!

This seems to be a compatibility issue if it works on windows 10. Did it ever work on windows 11?

March 31, 2025 at 2:40 am in reply to: Automatically attenuate volume of one audio event

    Hey there!
Yep, you can definitely automate volume dips whenever the voiceover plays. It’s called ducking, and Vegas has a pretty straightforward way to do it.
The easiest method is using the Volume Ducking effect. Just add it to your main audio track, set the sidechain input to your voiceover track, and adjust the threshold, ratio, and attack/release settings. This makes the main audio automatically lower whenever the voiceover kicks in and fade back up when it ends.

    I hope this helps!
