  • What is best Aspect Ratio for media clips in my project?

As I create a video, I prefer the video to fill the entire screen. However, in order to do that, I find myself using the pan/crop feature and selecting the 16:9 drop down option…for everything I drag into timeline. Is there a better method to create a better video where the media ranges from vertical and landscape photos as well as videos? What should be my default setting for the project?

    Hey again!
Glad to see you’re diving further into this. Since you’re already using the 1920×1080 30p project preset (which is perfect, by the way), you’re definitely on the right track. Having to manually go into Pan/Crop and select the 16:9 preset for every single piece of media can get tedious fast.

One thing that’s helped me is using “Match Output Aspect” inside the Pan/Crop window. Once you apply that to a clip, you can save it as a preset, and then just reuse it instead of doing it from scratch every time. If you have a bunch of clips, just apply it to one, then Copy that clip and use “Paste Event Attributes” to quickly copy it to the others.

For vertical phone footage or tall photos, I sometimes do the blurred background trick like I explained on the other thread.

So yeah, sticking with your current project settings is perfect, and using those little tricks can really streamline things when dealing with a bunch of mixed media.
    Hope that helps!
    Jurgen
