  • Automatically attenuate volume of one audio event

    Greetings.

I need to create a voiceover video file form the master video and voice recording.

Is there a way to automate volume attenuation of the main audio track wehenever there is something in the voiceover audio track?

The latter track is not a continuous track, just bits and pieces here and there.

I’m looking for a solution that will do fade ins and outs around starts and ends of the voiceover event and decrease the volume of the main track between them.

If there is a way to export start and end times of the voiceover events and then manually edit the volume automation fade ins and outs as well as volume attenuation, that is also something I can manually do, I suppose.

    Hey there!
Yep, you can definitely automate volume dips whenever the voiceover plays. It’s called ducking, and Vegas has a pretty straightforward way to do it.
The easiest method is using the Volume Ducking effect. Just add it to your main audio track, set the sidechain input to your voiceover track, and adjust the threshold, ratio, and attack/release settings. This makes the main audio automatically lower whenever the voiceover kicks in and fade back up when it ends.

    I hope this helps!

    Is that available in 17.0?

I believe the Volume Ducking effect was introduced in Vegas 20. You can do this manually if you want. It’s however definitely not the most efficient way of doing it, but at least it works. 🙂

Pressing V will activate the volume line on your audio tracks. Double clicking on the line creates a key point. You can right click the key points to set a specific volume, choose fade type etc…

    Good luck!
