    Hey There,

We think we may know why this occurs.

FCP sends out a constant “ping” to the deck to find out if the deck is connected.

Avid sends out one ping. If it does not get a response, it thinks no VTR is connected and then does not allow the other commands like “Play” or “Stop” to work.

Because our Hubs are automatically switching the RS422 direction, we’re dropping part of the message so the directionality of the RS422 connection is not set, hence there is no communication.

There’s an option in the VTR control window of Avid that says something like “connect to deck” which will try to establish deck control.

If the user runs that command twice quickly within 5 seconds, it should start working.

Please try that and let us know if that helps out.

We’ve only recently added the automatic direction detection into the software, so this is a fairly recent discovery. We are looking at ways we can make this better.

You could conceivably use an older version of the software (going back to a drive where the automatic directionality detection was not there) it could help, though we don’t recommend running older versions of the software as you could remove functionality of the product.

    Sincerely,

I believe we’ve answered that question via email. I did take a look and we did have emails going back quite a ways. Too far in fact. It looks like they got filed before they got answered, so that was our bad for sure.

Sorry it took so long, we normally like to have these emails answered much quicker. Two weeks is absolutely too long.

Not putting this on you at all, it’s not your fault, but in the future you can give us a call directly, the wait is rarely more than a few minutes and would probably get you an answer much quicker.

    Sincerely,

We’ve had another customer report this and are checking into it now. Not sure when this was broken, so we are checking to see that too (or if it was always broken).

Is this something that has never worked (if you’ve been using the card for a while) or did it work on an older driver rev and if so which?

February 8, 2010 at 6:36 pm in reply to: Intensity Pro-Media Express capture

    That’s odd.

I can’t imagine why anyone you would have talked to would have told you that it doesn’t work with a Mac Pro. I can assure you it does.

If you can’t capture in Media Express or FCP then it would suggest that the problem is the same in both applications. So the question is can you capture with Composite or Component?

You could be dealing with a bad card, because it looks from your comment that you have your settings right. Why dont you give us a call and one of the guys here can check it out for you.

Hrm…untested obviously. However yes…it is more GPU intensive. It doesn’t like to be defocused so if the render node is happy to run in the background it might work.

Obviously, if there is an issue and you call us we will have to ask you to check your results against the system without the render node turned on…but, yeah…you know.

That system IS compatible…but the graphics card is as much of a considerination in this as the system. Of course the HP systems are also available for purchase WITHOUT graphics cards.

So perhaps we can make this clearer on the website, but we are trying not to over complicate this.

Unfortunately as you’ve discovered the Quadro cards (whilst more expensive and better at certain things) are not what is needed for this application. Oddly enough buying a much less expensive low/mid level gamer card is just what the doctor ordered.

So you can buy one off the minimum specs list for around 80 bucks, but I like to use the GS250 or higher.

    Again..sorry for the confusion.

February 2, 2010 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Decklink not working with Shuttle motherboards ?

Yeah..I think that board has an X58 chipset. And there is an incompatibility at the hardware level between the X58s and our 1x lane cards.

We’ve spent time with both manufacturers and it hasn’t resulted in a fix yet.

February 2, 2010 at 10:27 pm in reply to: component with Blackmagick HD extreme

Nope…but…if you want only the one input you can custom make a cable so that you don’t have all the other connections. We can send you the diagrame if you like. Just give us a call the parts are standard so you can make them yourself fairly easily.

That will get you a bit closer to a clean look which is what I am assuming you are going for.

February 2, 2010 at 10:26 pm in reply to: Radically modifying Mutlibridge Pro

While I don’t suggest it for obvious reasons, there should be no reason you can’t do that. Something to keep in mind.

First…we can get you a new fan as it sounds like the one you got has gone belly up.

Secondly if you do this you should make sure that the fan is powered EXTERNALLY and not from the power source on the Multibridge as it was designed to handle a very specific load.

Also keep in mind that the speed of the fan is (well originally) controlled by the firmware of the device so I wouldn’t recommend trying to use that either.

Other than that, running the unit open will increase your chance of destroying the unit (static discharge) so if you are doing to do this make sure you close it off. But the geeky part of me is curious as to what you will do? Are you going to make a bigger enclosure with a larger slower rotating fan? Perhaps change the heat sync on it? Just morbidly curious.

February 2, 2010 at 10:22 pm in reply to: deck link hd extreme 1or2 or 3 confusion

Yup, the HDExtreme 1 had 3 SDI on the back plane (1 in and 2 out). The HDextreme 2 has the same, but supported 3Gb and also had a knockout for HDMI in and out. HDExtreme 3 has 4 outputs on the backplate, 2 SDI in and 2 SDI out which can be used either for 3Gb or Duallink both ways.

You can tell fairly easily once you know what to look for (though we don’t expect you to know that automatically). You can also give us a call and tell us your serial number and we can look it up for you.

    Sincerely,
