Actually…I think we just repoed this in house today. It sounds almost as if there is some decode issue. Like the generic players are trying to decode with a different DV codec.

I thought we used MS DV for PC and QT DV for Mac, but this would appear not to be the case in Media Express 2.0.

In short…you’re not insane…something is up there. We are looking into this.

    Sincerely,

  • Oh…you can’t do 1080i through composite or S-video. Only Component.

And yes..in order to capture HDMI from the PS3 you have to have a development console. That’s because the PS3 has HDCP turned on always…no matter the content.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

    Hey Peter,

Well, I am certainly sorry to hear of your continued trouble with our boards. Of course I am happy to hear that B&H was able to help you.

To clarify, (lest forum browsers get the wrong idea) there was a fairly active conversation between BMD and yourself.

While Blackmagic is obviously not at fault for selling you a Studio (original, 100 dollars cheaper than the 2) B&H certainly did the right thing by helping you into the right board you really wanted.

Unfortunately that board was indeed defective. For that we apologize. We we would have been happy to do the swap for you had done it through B&H already (which is fine and probably resulted in a faster turn around for you).

The last I’ve heard from you was before Christmas when you had some concerns on the quality of the down conversion which you said might have just been your perspective, but I offered to take take a look at what you were seeing (with your source) so we could narrow down any particular issue, which you didn’t feel was necessary at that time.

As for this project corruption, I’ve never heard anything from you. Honestly once a project file is corrupt there is little that can be done to rebuild it (which is unfortunate), but I would have liked the chance to work with you on it just the same.

More importantly, I am glad that you’ve gotten a card that works for you, as ultimately that is the most important thing.

Normally I wouldn’t have brought this up, but you’ve posted this rather prolifically on the cow and I wanted others to have both sides.

Most importantly I apologize that we didn’t provide you with the support you feel you deserved. Ultimately that is what we are striving for.

    Sincerely,

December 2, 2009 at 11:59 pm in reply to: Blackmagic AVIs to Final Cut Pro?

Heard you called my guys here in the office and they passed you the utility. You had a question about if it was lossless or not.

The answer is that the file’s video data is not changed in anyway. Its a hex edit that changes only the file header which contains the 4cc code. The 4cc code is what tells the computer which codec to use for decoding the video data. The problem in your case is the 4cc code on the AVI file is not recognized by the Apple system. EVEN THOUGH the video data in the file is in the same format. So this little angle goes and changes that 4cc code and boom….it’s decodable.

    Hope that helps clarify

    Thanks Mario,

If you continue to have problems with another monitor (though we use many different Bravias and they should be fine) let us know. It is possible that we have to replace this board.

    Sincerely,

December 2, 2009 at 11:08 pm in reply to: Are the 7.4 drivers supposed to 7.3.2?

    No problem.

At this time there is no intention to re-add this feature. If the concern is that the product was purchased with a certain feature set and the feature was removed then the only solution I have to that would be for you to continue using the drive in which the feature was present.

Of course that is not always ideal, as you might not get any of the new features or capabilities that were added. So that kinda works both ways then. We take some away, add others (e.g. compatibility with new versions or new features or codecs).

Technologically there were several reasons for removing this. But I can understand how it would cause some difficulty in some cases. For those, you can always use the older driver.

    I hope that helps.

    Hey Peter,

What denial? I never denied that there might be a problem with the board.

Given your last response I would have actually told you that we should RMA this product and replace it. Reasons: Your footage deffinitely looked wrong. The footage captured with my board in house did not have this issue. So to me that shows a clear case of a product defect.

ABSOLUTELY no denial on our part.

As for B&H knowing about this issue. That seems really odd. They haven’t reported it to us, but that is not atypical as when they return boards the rarely provide us with anything other than basic details on the fault.

Either way, I would hardly call 2 days of active discussion a denial of an issue. But what I am really concerned about is the fact that you feel that way. I am glad you got the card replaced (fwiw you can do that directly through us, but it is often quicker to get it done through the dealer if they are close).

I’m sure we’ll get that board back and it will show the same issue to us when we test it.

Glad you are up and running again.

    Sincerely,
