Which, I believe is called ‘judder’. No kidding.
If you get jitter on small lines, you’ve encountered a limitation of NTSC – it can’t resolve (very well, at least) lines of 1 pixel. If you have lines coursing through the picture, especially through motion, its probably the result of looking at an interlaced product on a progressive (computer) monitor. Try checking it out on a interlaced monitor and see if you get the same thing.

You can transcode the files within Avid. Right click on the file and follow the dialog box. Alternately, you can select the entire project as 44.1 (setting>audio project>44.1).

Also, try checking your digitize settings (I think – I’m not in front of a machine right now) and make sure you have ‘capture at compression logged with clip (or something like that) is NOT selected. I think the option is in one of tabs….

First off, do you have a Mojo? if you do, you may be having a conflict with your firewire card. Make sure the FW card is on a separate bus from your Mojo.

You don’t say what you are trying to control. Check this link to make sure your device is approved for use with Avid:

If your device isn’t listed, it may still work, but it will be hit an miss.
If you used Vegas to import, then delete all the media Vegas generated. That should free up some room.

How long is a piece of string?
Are the highlights for a VO (Stuart Scott talks while the video runs) or a self-contained package (using a radio call, nat sound, graphics to tell the story of the game)?
I can tell you from my experience, for a self-contained package on a DIV 1 BBall program, with a radio call, cutaways, graphics takes about 4 hours. That includes digitize time and time to lay back to tape. The package is usually 4-5 minutes.
Of course, all the graphics are pre-built, and all the editor needs to do is change them accordingly.

It should be there.
Make sure you have (and I’m not in front of an Avid, so this is from memory – scary…) ‘auto gain’ enabled in your timeline. There is a little fast menu (hamburger menu) at the bottom left part of the timeline window. Click on that, and find the setting. This is also where you find the audio sample plots, dupe detection, etc.
FYI, if you look a little right of the fast menu, you’ll see a window displaying the name of your settings. Click on that, and you’ll see ‘save as’. I’ve got my settings set up to see my ‘normal view’, and to see larger audio tracks (I call them, er, big audio 1_2, big audio 3_4, etc). That way I don’t have to set up my timeline view every time. When you expand your timeline (both horizontally and vertically), you can really get in to see the waveforms, as well as have much more control over the auto gain line and placement of the audio keyframes. You can save the vertical height of each track of the timeline, but not the zoom factor.
To delete views you no longer use, go to settings, timeline and delete the offending setting.
BTW, you can’t use ‘&’ when naming your views. You have to use an underscore, or something like that.

The old macs (meridian and prior) used to come with a program called comm closer. Any chance there’s something like that in your utilities?

Try getting rid of the MCState (Applications / Avid XPro / Settings) and see if that helps. If it doesn’t, try creating new user settings.

Check your digitize settings. There is a check box that says something like “digitize single frame of video”. Make sure its unchecked….
