    Hello!

When I captured the mini-DV footage I saw that the video resolution was 28:1 and I thought it was fine. The problem is I need to redigitize and have a 1:1 resolution and I see that this 28:1 won’t budge. In the Capture tool, there are only 2 other options: 35:1 and 14:1 there are grey and even if you click on them nothing happens. The 28:1 is ticked and black. There is not even 1:1 option. The OMF button is pink and the MXF is grey and nothing happens if you click on that.

(In capture tool I have vidoe and audio at OHCI and the drive is G-raid2 and it’s on Generic DVDevice-PAL)

I fI go to the Project window and then Media Creation and then capture same thing as in the capture tool: 2 other options: 35:1 and 14:1 greyed up, the OMF is on and MXF greyed up.

Finally I go to Mac HD and then Applications and then Avid Xpress Pro, then Settings: there when I click Avid defaultPrefsXP.avs a message comes saying: Xpress Pro is unable to open this.

Same thing happens when I click on Site settings.

I am going out of my wits PLEASE HELP!

    Thank you.

Based on the resolutions you have available, this is a film project. Also, do you have a Mojo- it tends to be required to digitize or output 1:1. And, what version of the software are you running?

Xpress Pro can capture DV25, DV50, and JFIF 28:1. It can play back 35:1 and 14:1. You should be able to recapture as DV25 if a higher quality capture is needed. Media Composer software allows for 1:1, 14:1, and 35:1 capture.

Also, try checking your digitize settings (I think – I’m not in front of a machine right now) and make sure you have ‘capture at compression logged with clip (or something like that) is NOT selected. I think the option is in one of tabs….

Thanks for coming back to me.

I’m running Avid Xpress Pro v.4.3.1 and I am stuck with this old version because a film project is still unfinished and upgrading has in the past caused chaos…

I don’t have a Mojo and I am not too sure what that is.

Another thing is the sound in my sequence is out of synch (the sound on the tapes is ok).I thought once the video is uncompressed the sound would get back in synch with the video but now I am worried.

What I am doing is a minute for a 1 mn news item which I am doing for a friend, not a film. I need to get this edit presentable at 1:1, not at 28:1… Looking at the Creative Cow archive I saw someone had a similar problem but they were in telecine and shot on something else… They pointed out that when you create a new project you should choose 25i. I chose 25. But in choosing 25i, you only get a resolution selection of DV 25411, DV 25 420 AND 15:1. Where is the 1:1? Does DV 25 420 mean 1:1?

    Please help!

Are you saying I should recapture everything at say DV 25 420 and that would be high quality?
    Please help!

You need a Mojo to access the 1:1 capture. DV25 would equal the quality of the source tapes since that is the format being used. 1:1 won’t get you better quality if your sources are DV to start with, it would only maintain a higher quality if you were planning on doing a lot of generational type renders.

You will need a Mojo to work at 1:1 with that version of AXP. You can find information on the Mojo on Avid’s website.
