Hello all… hopefully someone can help me w/ this problem as i feel i’ve exhaused my research and options. Yesterday i installed a MC (2.7.2) Adrenaline w/ DnxHD card on a xw8400. Dsub 9 out the back of the CPU then into the DataMate adapter (RS-232 to RS-422). I am getting Video/Audio from the decks but no control… keep getting the error “The port COM1 is busy and cannot be used for deck control”.

    Things i’ve done/made sure of:

-My controller settings are set to “No Controller” and port to “No Port”
-Communication Serial Port settings to “COM1”
-Deck Configuration settings to “Direct on COM1” and various deck presets along w/ auto-configure

I thought maybe it was the cable so i downloaded the 2 little pieces of software from Addenda called WSONY II and ComCheck 32. Both of which are very snazzy little programs. Between the two of those, they let me know that my wiring was fine because i was able to control all my decks w/ the WSONY II proggie.

ComCheck 32 told me that when Avid started up, it took over that COM1 port once a project was opened. Also, just to be sure, i unhooked a DSR-1800 from the Machine rack and brought it locally to the edit bay to make sure it wasn’t the cable length.

I’ve also cleared my MCstate etc. and created a new user and project.

Please hit me w/ even the slightest bit of info if you have it so i can get this bad boy up and running.

    Much appreciated,
    Tom

ya gotta go into your deck configuration, delete your decks then ressign em.
I have to do this almost daily. Really, any time I hook up a new machine. For me, thats connecting a firewire cable.

Thanks grinner… i’ve tried that countless times and still no go. All of our machines are on a RS-422 connection and i have yet to try firewire.
Also, I get that message (“The port COM1 is busy and cannot be used for deck control”) as soon as a project boots up.

I’d hate to do a reinstall but i think i may have to.

    Gotta love it.

The old macs (meridian and prior) used to come with a program called comm closer. Any chance there’s something like that in your utilities?

Thanks Jon and Grinner for your feedback!

Welp…. i uninstalled and reinstalled and everything is working fine!!

I think the reason is because when i originally installed the program i didn’t have the VTR hooked up via RS-422 when i launched the program for the first time. I noticed something when MC loaded that i didn’t remember seeing the first time… something like “loading serial connections” or something like that.

Anyway… time to see if everything else is working properly!!

    Cheers!!!
